Job Description
Puerta is a vibrant restaurant concept under the umbrella of 1957 Hospitality, dedicated to bringing an authentic Mexican dining experience to its guests. Known for its commitment to quality, Puerta combines traditional Mexican cuisine with the freshest ingredients and classic cooking techniques. The culinary team at Puerta is made up of professionals from diverse backgrounds and wide-ranging expertise, all united by a passion for creating unique and approachable flavors that resonate with nostalgia and innovation. The restaurant prides itself on sourcing numerous ingredients and spirits directly from Mexico, with a particular emphasis on Mezcal and tequila, which form the heart of the bar program. This focus allows guests to enjoy a wide array of artisanal cocktails, from freshly squeezed Margaritas to rare Mezcal pours, all served within an inviting atmosphere ideal for late-night entertainment or pre-evening outings. The ambiance at Puerta also features DJ-driven music, adding to the dynamic and lively environment that appeals to locals and visitors alike.
The role of Shift Lead at Puerta is a hybrid position uniquely suited for experienced hospitality professionals eager to blend managerial responsibilities with on-the-floor service excellence. This position offers a rare opportunity to engage in both leadership and earning through service, catering to candidates who want to grow in management while maintaining the dynamic interactions of serving and bartending. The Shift Lead works closely with the team and management to ensure seamless operations, guest satisfaction, and team accountability across all front-of-house activities. The work schedule typically consists of two shifts per week as a Front of House (FOH) Floor Manager, overseeing operational execution and team leadership, combined with three to five shifts per week as a tipped Server or Bartender.
Successful candidates will embody a calm, composed demeanor under pressure and demonstrate a 'lead by example' approach that fosters motivation and professionalism among staff. Key responsibilities include managing daily FOH operations, handling guest relations with care, and resolving any issues that arise swiftly and professionally. As a leader, the Shift Lead ensures all team members adhere to Puerta’s signature steps of service and maintain operational standards throughout the shift. This role also encompasses essential opening and closing duties like managing cash drawers and securing the premises, along with supporting the team on the floor during peak times by hosting, running food and drinks, and assisting wherever needed.
On the service side of the role, the Shift Lead delivers world-class hospitality by guiding guests through a timely and enjoyable dining experience. They must offer expert menu knowledge, particularly regarding Puerta’s specialized Mezcal and tequila offerings, to make tailored recommendations that enhance the guest experience. Serving responsibilities also include precise transaction handling, daily bar preparation, and maintaining cleanliness and equipment on the bar. Overall, the Shift Lead role is vital to Puerta’s mission of providing exceptional Mexican dining experiences with high standards of service and authenticity, offering competitive wages ranging from $15 to $25 per hour plus tips, depending on the shift type.
