Job Description
Endeavors is a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering vulnerable populations, including low-income families, veterans, and at-risk individuals, by providing supportive services that enhance their quality of life. With a deep commitment to fostering community well-being, Endeavors offers a range of programs including shelter services, counseling, and advocacy to help clients achieve stability and self-sufficiency. The organization prides itself on maintaining a discrimination-free workplace, making reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities, and focusing on equality in hiring practices.
The role of Shelter Monitor at Endeavors is vital to the operation of their shelter/center programs. This position is responsible for monitoring the activities of shelter residents, ensuring adherence to program rules, and maintaining the safety and security of the facility. The Shelter Monitor is expected to provide a safe, structured environment that meets the needs of clients while maintaining professional boundaries. Beyond just overseeing residents, this role involves documenting incidents and behaviors thoroughly and accurately, consulting supervisors on client needs, and utilizing positive behavioral management techniques such as verbal redirection and de-escalation.
Key responsibilities include assisting residents with processing issues, maintaining facility cleanliness, responding promptly to client requests or complaints, and conducting regular inspections to identify improvement opportunities. In addition, the Shelter Monitor will help orient new residents by assigning beds and lockers and distributing supplies. This role requires close cooperation with volunteers and other staff members to ensure smooth shelter operations. A critical component of the job is teaching good personal hygiene skills and addressing procedural violations with residents to promote compliance with shelter policies.
Endeavors emphasizes exceptional customer service, encouraging staff to place clients first and support their mission to empower individuals to build better lives. This position requires a compassionate yet firm approach to client interactions and the ability to maintain safety and order in a dynamic environment.
The Shelter Monitor role is an in-person position that requires regular attendance, the use of a personal vehicle for transportation to various sites, and the capacity to travel as needed. Candidates should hold a high school diploma or GED and bring at least 2 years of experience working with vulnerable or homeless populations. A valid driver's license with a clean record is required. This job offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to community welfare and support individuals in critical times of need, aligning with Endeavors' commitment to an inclusive and supportive workplace.
