This full-time Shelter Coordinator position at DAIS offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced, compassionate, and organized professional to contribute meaningfully to the organization’s mission. The role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of DAIS’s residential shelter, which serves individuals and families affected by domestic violence. The Shelter Coordinator plays a critical leadership role in ensuring that shelter operations run smoothly and that residents experience a safe, dignified, and empowering environment during their stay. This individual will manage staff scheduling and coverage, conduct hiring and onboarding, provide ongoing training and supervision, and actively engage with both staff and volunteers to maintain a positive and productive atmosphere. The role requires a strong presence on site within the shelter and involves direct client service duties, particularly in crisis situations. The Shelter Coordinator must demonstrate exceptional ability to problem solve, stay calm under pressure, and effectively lead a team committed to trauma-informed care. The position also involves participation in an on-call rotation to support shelter operations outside regular hours.

Successful candidates will bring experience working in residential settings with individuals in crisis, preferably with survivors of both child and adult trauma, and will possess strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience
Minimum three years of supervisory experience with a team of at least fifteen employees or volunteers
Experience working in residential crisis settings
Experience with trauma survivors, both child and adult
Knowledge of domestic violence issues preferred
Strong organizational and communication skills
Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office
Ability to handle confidential information
Capable of problem solving and judgment under pressure
Bilingual preferred

Job Qualifications

A bachelor's degree is preferred though relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Minimum of three years of experience supervising a team of at least fifteen employees or volunteers
Experience working in a residential setting with individuals in crisis
Experience providing supervision to direct service human services staff preferred
Experience with both child and adult trauma survivors is required, knowledge of domestic violence issues preferred
Excellent, organizational, written, and verbal communication, and computer skills including Microsoft Office
Excellent problem solving, judgement, and time management skills
Ability to maintain highly confidential information
Bilingual preferred

Job Duties

Provide supervision for shelter staff while fostering a productive work environment and positive community housing atmosphere
Coordinate and determine staffing needs for our emergency domestic violence shelter
prepare staff schedules
Participate in hiring of staff and ensure effective onboarding and on-going training of shelter staff
communicate performance expectations and ensure accountability
Provide residents with support and resources in a trauma-informed manner
Provide crisis management, consultation and direction in response to client needs
Oversee Shelter inventory ensuring adequate supplies, including food and other daily living supplies
Ensure a safe and clean environment for residents and staff through the establishment of protocols and procedures
Assist the Manager of Shelter and Family Services with administrative needs
Provide trauma informed direct services to shelter residents and their children, providing back-up support on weekdays, evenings, weekends, or overnight as needed.
