Job Description

Dickinson College is a distinguished four-year residential liberal arts institution that was chartered in 1783. Recognized nationally and internationally, Dickinson is a leader in global education and sustainability studies, offering its students an immersive and transformative academic experience. Located in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, the college benefits from its proximity to a vibrant downtown area featuring a variety of dining, shopping, and entertainment options. The city of Carlisle itself has been recognized by Forbes as one of the 'most livable cities,' providing an exceptional quality of life for residents and students alike. Furthermore, Dickinson College is strategically positioned near state and major metropolitan capitals, including Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and New York City within driving distance, enhancing both its cultural richness and professional opportunities for students and employees.

The position available is within Dickinson College's Dining Services department, specifically in the Dining Hall. The role of Serving Area/Dish Utility Worker is a vital part of the college's commitment to delivering excellent food services and an outstanding dining experience to its students. This position serves as a direct point of contact with students and other customers by providing courteous and efficient service. Workers in this role are responsible for maintaining clean, neat, and sanitary work areas, including the floor and dish room, by adhering strictly to the guidelines set forth by the college's HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) program. The job includes operating dishwashing machinery and related equipment following departmental standards.

Beyond maintaining hygiene and operational efficiency, the Serving Area/Dish Utility Worker is trained to support multiple areas of the dining service environment, promoting flexibility and teamwork. Safety is a priority, with adherence to college policies ensuring a secure work environment. An important designation tied to this position is that of 'emergency response personnel,' meaning the worker must be available to report for duty during college delays or closures and respond to emergencies, including weather-related situations. Additionally, the employee should be willing to work during occasional holiday dinners and seasonal events throughout the academic year, which occur two to three times per semester. This role can be physically demanding, requiring the ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 30 pounds, and perform bending and stooping movements throughout a shift. Dickinson College offers an attractive compensation package for full-time employees that includes comprehensive medical insurance, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, generous paid time off, parental leave, homebuyer assistance, and tuition benefits for eligible employees and their dependents. The college also contributes to employee retirement plans with an immediate vesting benefit, reinforcing its commitment to employee welfare and future security.
