Job Description
The American Red Cross is a globally recognized humanitarian organization dedicated to providing emergency assistance, disaster relief, and education across the United States and around the world. As the largest humanitarian network in the world, the American Red Cross plays a critical role in supporting military members, veterans, and their families through a variety of dedicated programs and services. The organization operates on the principles of volunteerism, service, and compassion, striving to create a meaningful impact on communities in need. It offers employees a unique opportunity to be part of a vital mission where their work directly improves and supports lives while fostering a career built on purpose and growth. The American Red Cross maintains a welcoming and diverse work environment in which employees are valued not only for their professional contributions but also respected for their individuality and wellbeing.
The American Red Cross is currently seeking a Mobile SAF Regional Program Specialist based at Travis Air Force Base and the surrounding areas. This is a regional role as part of the organization's mobile staff, which involves specialized requirements such as meeting strict medical and security clearances before employment. A key feature of this position is the demand for worldwide deployment, which is a necessary condition of employment. Deployments typically last around six months and occur approximately once every 18 to 24 months, with assignments possible at any military base globally. The role offers a competitive salary range of $64,900 to $69,000 in California, aligned with the specific geographic area where the work is performed and factoring in experience and skills.
In this role, the Mobile SAF Regional Program Specialist manages and administers American Red Cross services that cater to the needs of U.S. military members, veterans, and their families. They also support International Services programs and provide leadership and development support to volunteers. The Specialist ensures compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations and Red Cross policies. They serve as the community-facing representative of the Red Cross at their location, cultivating strong relationships with military leadership and local organizations to broaden the organization's footprint and enhance its service delivery. The volunteer engagement program is a significant responsibility, ensuring consistent program support through recruitment, training, and volunteer management. Service delivery oversight includes coordinating services at military and VA hospitals, providing rehabilitative assistance, resiliency training, and morale support.
An important aspect of this position is financial and programmatic oversight, requiring budget management and outcome reporting to maintain organizational accountability and continual program improvement. The dynamic nature of the role involves adaptability and readiness to participate in emergency, surge, and disaster response efforts. The mobile status of the position means the Specialist must uphold medical, security, and deployment readiness requirements, including participation in ongoing trainings and drills. Candidates must be prepared for the possibility of working in challenging international settings, including conflict zones, adhering to strict military health standards, and sometimes wearing military uniforms.
Ideal candidates are driven by a passion for serving military members, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrate resilience both physically and emotionally. Adaptability, independent problem-solving capabilities, teamwork, and servant leadership qualities are key to thriving in this role. The American Red Cross supports its employees with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, PTO, paid holidays, 401K plan with matching, paid family leave, employee assistance programs, and disability insurance. This position offers a unique opportunity to advance a career that is truly a force for good, making meaningful contributions on a global scale while supporting some of the bravest individuals in our society.
