The role of Environmental Services Technician at Allegheny Health Network is vital to maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary environment within healthcare facilities. This position is primarily responsible for performing a variety of floor maintenance duties including stripping and refinishing floors, shower scrubbing, shampooing, extracting, and burnishing to uphold cleanliness standards. The Environmental Services Technician also operates various floor care equipment such as automatic floor machines, burnishers, and extractors, ensuring all machinery is used and maintained properly to optimize performance and safety.
Beyond floor care, this role supports other key departmental functions including linen distribution, trash collection, stocking and distributing supplies, handling confidential containers, and assisting with the maintenance of traction devices. The technician may be assigned special projects such as changing curtains, washing windows and walls, moving furniture, organizing storage areas, and other miscellaneous tasks essential to the upkeep and appearance of the healthcare facilities.
Environmental Services Technicians must demonstrate professionalism, adhere to departmental goals, and participate actively in training and performance improvement processes. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Basic reading, writing and effective communication skills
- Ability to operate power equipment
- Fit testing may be required and provided upon hire as needed
- Prior knowledge of floor care equipment preferred
- DOT training may be required and provided upon hire
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks
- Willingness to adhere to safety policies and infection control procedures

- Prior knowledge and operation of floor care equipment including automatic floor machines, battery and cord burnishers, battery and cord extractors, rotary floor machines, riding floor scrubbers and riding vacuums preferred
- DOT training may be required and is provided upon hire as needed
Job Duties
- Responsible for completing major floor cleaning including stripping and refinishing, shower scrubbing, shampoo, extract, and burnishing
- Operate and maintain automatic floor machines, burnishers, extractors, and other floor care equipment
- Perform other department functions such as linen distribution, trash pick up, stocking and distributing supplies, picking up and removing confidential containers, and assisting with taking apart traction devices
- Complete other special projects as assigned including changing curtains, washing windows, washing walls, moving furniture, and organizing storage areas
- Maintain all cleaning supplies, equipment and environmental closets in a clean and organized manner
- Clean all equipment after use and maintain in good repair
- Demonstrate professional behavior and adhere to departmental goals by following leadership instructions, participating in training and performance improvement, and adhering to attendance policies
- Complete duties adhering to all safety and infection control policies, including OSHA safety requirements, correct chemical mixing, PPE use, hand-washing, isolation procedures, safe waste handling, and emergency code knowledge
