Job Description
Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's are leading outdoor retail companies renowned for providing a wide variety of high-quality outdoor gear, apparel, and services. Both brands are recognized for their dedication to outdoor enthusiasts and are committed to creating an engaging shopping environment that fosters customer satisfaction and loyalty. With a strong presence in retail boating and fishing, Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's operate free-standing stores and large retail locations that serve thousands of customers, offering expert advice, quality products, and exceptional customer service.
The Boat Services Manager position is a critical leadership role within these established retail environments. Reporting directly to the Boat Manager, this role involves managing and directing the associates working in the Boat Service department. The main responsibility is to oversee daily operations, including inventory control, service, warranty handling, rigging, delivery, detailing, and parts activities. The Boat Services Manager plays a key part in ensuring that operational goals such as service and parts sales, gross margin, inventory shrinkage, and payroll targets are met or exceeded.
This role demands strong supervisory skills to effectively schedule and assign work orders for boat service, rigging, and warranty tasks, making sure that all work is completed to customer satisfaction and on time. Furthermore, the Boat Services Manager is responsible for fostering a productive and safe work environment while maintaining a focus on world-class customer service to provide an enjoyable and seamless experience for customers. In addition to daily team management and operational oversight, the role supports staffing efforts, including hiring recommendations, training coordination, preparation of performance appraisals, and coaching of associates to build a positive, team-oriented workplace.
The Boat Services Manager also assists in organizing special events such as boat shows and promotional activities, contributing strategically to the dealership’s overall success. Inventory management is a focal point, requiring precise oversight of units and parts to maintain accuracy. The role ensures warranty claims are handled efficiently, from claim creation to timely receipt of payments. Units must be delivered and detailed professionally, reinforcing the company’s reputation for quality and customer satisfaction.
This full-time position is suited for professionals with two to four years of experience in retail boating or a similar industry, with supervisory experience considered an advantage. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to interpret reports and data, capability in using computer-based applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and inventory management systems, and excellent communication abilities to interact with managers, associates, customers, and public stakeholders.
Physical demands include regular computer work, walking and standing, occasional sitting, and lifting up to 50 pounds. The Boat Services Manager must exercise independent judgment within company policies, analyze problems, and recommend improvements to policies and practices.
Offering competitive benefits such as medical, dental, vision plans, flexible spending accounts, 401k retirement savings, paid holidays, vacations, and sick time, this role presents a promising opportunity for career growth in a dynamic retail boating environment. Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's are equal opportunity employers committed to diversity and inclusion, supporting reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities.
