The Service Clerk position at the 431 Salinas location, situated at 319 E. Market Street, Salinas, California, is integral to the day-to-day operations of the store. This hourly role begins at a starting rate of $16.90 and is designed for individuals passionate about delivering excellent customer service, supporting their community, and engaging with food retail. As a Service Clerk, you will report directly to the Store Manager or Senior Assistant Manager and undertake a variety of responsibilities focused on maintaining store presentation, assisting customers through various means, and ensuring an overall clean and organized shopping environment.
Key duties include managing shopping carts both inside the store and in the parking lot, assisting customers with their purchases and loading groceries into their vehicles upon request, verifying price accuracy on retail items to facilitate smooth checkout processes, and managing merchandise returns to shelves. Additionally, the role encompasses maintaining cleanliness in high-traffic areas such as store entrances, restrooms, and walkways, which involves sweeping, mopping, trash collection, and ensuring that merchandise is properly faced and stocked on the shelves.
Candidates are expected to have proficient English reading and writing skills, the ability to understand product labels and pricing codes, and the capacity to adhere to detailed instructions. Physical fitness is necessary as the position involves regular lifting of up to 25 pounds, frequent lifting up to 45 pounds, and occasional lifting up to 60 pounds. Candidates with basic PC and Outlook skills, or those holding a Retail Management Certificate, will find an added advantage. Job Duties
- Collect and organize shopping carts within the store and retrieve carts from the parking lot and surrounding areas
- Assist customers with the loading of merchandise into shopping carts and provide assistance to load merchandise into their vehicles
- Check retail prices on shelves for check stand personnel
- Pull merchandise from check stand go backs and return to proper shelves, walk aisles to return misplaced items and face merchandise as needed
- Monitor cleanliness of store entrance including sweeping, trash pickup, mopping walkways and cleaning entrance/exit doors
- Maintain cleanliness of store throughout the day including sweeping, mopping, cleaning and restocking restrooms
