Job Description

The Hotel Kansas City is an iconic establishment nestled within the historic Kansas City Club building, offering a distinctive blend of old-world charm and modern luxury. With over a century of history as a premier social meeting venue, this hotel stands out as a premier destination in Kansas City for memorable events, innovative dining experiences, and vibrant nightlife. The hotel features 144 guest rooms, complemented by the Town Company, a distinguished three-meal restaurant; El Gold, a lively live music cellar cocktail bar; and a stylish lobby lounge and bar. These venues collectively create a welcoming atmosphere for both locals and guests, fostering impromptu mingling and social engagement.

In addition to its accommodations and dining options, The Hotel Kansas City boasts approximately 20,000 square feet of versatile meeting space. This includes grand historic ballrooms and an expansive 3,000 square foot rooftop event patio, making it an ideal location for gatherings of all kinds, from corporate meetings to social celebrations. The unique setting marries historic elegance with contemporary amenities, ensuring that every event is both impressive and comfortable.

The role of a restaurant server at The Hotel Kansas City is integral to maintaining the high standards and exceptional guest experiences the hotel is known for. This position requires a professional who is not only skilled in food and beverage service but also deeply committed to guest satisfaction. The server is responsible for taking precise orders and delivering food and beverages with friendliness, courtesy, and timeliness. The ability to anticipate guest needs and provide attentive service ensures that each visitor’s experience is memorable and enjoyable.

Servers at this establishment handle a variety of duties, including mastering a comprehensive understanding of menu items, preparation techniques, beverage offerings, and service protocols. Knowledge of local vendors and sustainable sources is emphasized, aligning with the hotel's commitment to quality and community engagement. Servers also engage with guests to promote specials and answer questions about hotel services and local attractions, enhancing the overall guest experience.

The position demands familiarity with POS and reservation systems, as well as adherence to all departmental policies and standards concerning cleanliness, equipment maintenance, and sanitation. Servers must efficiently manage their assigned stations, ensure proper table settings, and maintain the condition of service ware. Delivering food orders, including carrying trays up to 50 pounds, checking guest satisfaction, clearing tables promptly, and resolving complaints professionally are also essential aspects of the job.

Moreover, this role requires the ability to work during scheduled hours aligned with the Town Company restaurant, specifically Wednesday through Sunday from 4pm to midnight. Candidates with at least two years of food and beverage serving experience, preferably within fine dining, and a high school diploma or GED are highly regarded. Strong organizational skills, problem-solving capabilities, and the physical ability to perform demanding tasks such as lifting and standing for extended periods are necessary.

In return for their dedication and professional service, employees at The Hotel Kansas City are offered an attractive benefits package. This includes complimentary room nights, discounted rates for friends and family, comprehensive medical, prescription, dental and vision insurance, as well as a 401K plan with company matching starting after 30 days of employment. The hotel also provides life and disability insurance, generous paid time off, family bonding and adoption assistance, an employee stock purchase plan, and a tuition reimbursement program. The Hotel Kansas City fosters an inclusive work environment, welcoming candidates from diverse backgrounds and providing equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
