The James is a vibrant neighborhood restaurant located in the heart of James Island, Charleston, offering classic American cuisine with a modern twist. Operated by The Neighborhood Dining Group, The James is part of an esteemed family of restaurants including Husk, Delaney Oyster House, Minero, and Marbled & Fin, all known for their commitment to exceptional food and service. We are currently seeking confident, engaging, and knowledgeable Servers to join our hospitality-driven team on a part-time basis during daytime hours. As a Server at The James, you will play a critical role in enhancing our guests’ dining experiences in a fast-paced, upscale environment. This position offers a competitive hourly rate with the opportunity to earn excellent tips in addition to your base pay. The James values professionalism, teamwork, and Southern hospitality, making it an ideal setting for individuals passionate about food, service, and community engagement.

The Server role involves warmly greeting guests and guiding them thoughtfully through the menu, offering insights about our diverse selection of dishes, beverages, and daily specials. Accuracy and efficiency in taking orders are paramount, along with timely delivery of food and drinks to ensure guest satisfaction. The Server is also responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization within their designated service areas, handling payments, and adhering strictly to health, safety, and sanitation standards. Working closely with bartenders, kitchen staff, and server assistants, the Server helps to deliver seamless and memorable dining experiences. Job Requirements

  • Minimum one year of experience in high-volume, upscale dining
  • Knowledgeable and confident discussing food, wine, spirits, and cocktails
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and works with a sense of urgency
  • Strong communicator with a polished and professional demeanor
  • Ability to work flexible daytime hours in a fast-paced environment

Job Duties

  • Greet guests promptly with warmth and professionalism
  • Guide guests through the menu with detailed knowledge of dishes, beverages, and specials
  • Take accurate food and beverage orders and input them into the POS system efficiently
  • Deliver food and drinks in a timely, attentive manner
  • Monitor guest satisfaction and respond promptly to guest needs and concerns
  • Collaborate with team members (bartenders, kitchen staff, server assistants) to ensure seamless service
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned sections and service areas
  • Handle payments accurately and process checks using the POS system
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines
  • Uphold the standards of service and hospitality expected in a fine dining environment
