Job Description
Surety Hotel is a distinguished luxury boutique hotel located in the historic Hippee Building in downtown Des Moines. Celebrating the city's rich heritage while embracing its vibrant future, Surety Hotel offers guests an exceptional blend of historic charm and contemporary luxury. The hotel is situated within a beautifully restored 1913 Beaux-Arts landmark and is proudly a part of Marriott's acclaimed Autograph Collection. With 137 elegantly appointed guest rooms and suites, along with inviting gathering spaces, Surety Hotel provides an unparalleled hospitality experience designed to meet the expectations of discerning travelers and locals alike. The onsite Mulberry Street Tavern adds a distinct culinary charm to the hotel, offering a vibrant atmosphere and thoughtfully curated menu that complements the overall guest experience. As a hallmark destination in the City of Certainties, Surety Hotel represents the promise of unmatched service, exquisite design, and a warm, community-focused hospitality ethos.
The Server role at Mulberry Street Tavern is a part-time position that reports directly to the Restaurant Manager and Food & Beverage (F&B) leadership team. This position is non-exempt, requiring a candidate who possesses both a deep knowledge of service techniques and the ability to multitask efficiently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. As a server, you will be a vital part of the F&B team, collaborating closely with bartenders, dishwashers, cooks, and chefs to ensure guests receive exceptional dining experiences from beginning to end. This role is not simply about taking orders; it is about curating memorable moments for every guest through attentive, friendly, and timely service. Comprehensive knowledge of the menu, including ingredients and any daily menu changes, is crucial to providing safe and informed service, especially for guests with allergies or dietary restrictions. Moreover, servers engage in ongoing beverage tastings and training to expand their expertise in beer, wine, and spirits, enhancing their ability to recommend pairings and answer guest inquiries confidently.
Beyond technical skills, the ideal candidate reflects the values of Aparium Hotel Group—collaborative, humble, experienced, and open-minded, with no room for egos. They must be reliable, responsible, and arrive ready to work every shift, exhibiting professionalism through polished appearance and a positive mindset. Working at Surety Hotel means contributing to a culture where employees treat each other with the same respect and kindness shown to guests, creating a supportive and team-oriented work environment. The server plays an important role in upholding the establishment's principles of People, Place, and Character, delivering hospitality that feels both intuitive and translocal—rooted in community yet mindful of global standards. This position offers an opportunity to grow within a reputable hospitality group that prioritizes both employee development and guest satisfaction. At Mulberry Street Tavern, the server’s mission extends beyond delivering food and drinks; it encompasses being a joyful curator of experiences who delights in making every guest visit memorable and every interaction meaningful.
