The role in focus is at the Residence Inn by Marriott Berkeley, an impressive 17-story hotel comprised of 331 suites, each equipped with fully furnished kitchens and separate living spaces. The property boasts over 15,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space and is home to a rooftop restaurant and bar that offers spectacular views of the San Francisco Bay Area. Situated in the vibrant heart of Downtown Berkeley, the hotel provides easy commuting access via the Downtown Berkeley BART station and multiple bus routes. This position is for a Restaurant Server who will act as the face of the hotel’s dining experience. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and customer-oriented, responsible for ensuring exceptional guest experiences. Key duties include preparing the restaurant for service, greeting guests warmly, guiding them through menu selections with detailed descriptions, accurately taking orders while confirming special requests, and collaborating effectively with kitchen and bar staff. The role demands being well-versed in the menu and beverage offerings, including wine, beer, cocktails, and spirits, and handling guest concerns professionally to resolve issues promptly. The position requires a fast-paced work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a passion for delivering an extraordinary dining experience.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of food service experience
  • Knowledge of food and beverage menus, including alcoholic beverages
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment

Job Duties

  • Prepare the restaurant pre-shift for the service ahead
  • Greet guests as they arrive or move about the restaurant
  • Guide guests on their culinary journey through descriptive selling of the menu
  • Be accurate in your order taking, confirming all special requests
  • Be the master of the menu, understanding the details to enhance the conversation
  • Work collaboratively with other restaurant servers and kitchen/bar staff
  • Assist guests who have concerns to guide them to a resolution that leaves them happy
  • Finalize the experience through timely and accurate bill presentation
