Job Description

Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette is a premier culinary destination located in the Monterey area, known for its exceptional dining experience that elegantly blends diverse atmospheres into one unique establishment. The restaurant features three distinct dining environments: a full-service dining room designed for an intimate and refined dining experience, a lively bar and lounge that serves as a social hub for guests, and an al fresco dining patio that offers a relaxed outdoor atmosphere. Central to Salt Wood Kitchen is its experiential oyster bar and live-fire kitchen, which create a vibrant and engaging heart and hearth of the restaurant. These elements work together to provide guests with a memorable culinary adventure, from handcrafted cocktails on the patio to hosting large group parties in multifunctional meeting spaces and private dining rooms. Salt Wood’s commitment to excellence is reflected in its comprehensive service and creative menu that highlight fresh, sustainable ingredients and culinary innovation.

Salt Wood Kitchen operates under HHM Hotels, a respected hospitality group dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for its team members. HHM Hotels values diversity and operates with equal opportunity, ensuring fair treatment for all employees regardless of race, color, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, pregnancy, national origin, age, religion, disability, veteran status, genetic information, citizenship status, or any other legally protected category. Working at Salt Wood Kitchen offers a chance to be part of a dynamic team that upholds core values such as People Are Our Capability, Hearts That Serve, Only Excellence, Stay Nimble, and Own It. These principles form the backbone of the workplace culture, encouraging employees to deliver excellent service, show genuine care, adapt quickly, and take ownership of their work.

The Server Assistant role at Salt Wood Kitchen & Oysterette is integral to maintaining the smooth flow of service and exceptional guest experiences. This position involves setting up and clearing tables efficiently, stocking all service stations, and assisting the food servers in alignment with established guest service and sustainability standards. Server Assistants play a crucial part in beginning the guests’ dining experiences by serving beverages, breads, and butter, as well as ensuring timely replenishment throughout service. Responsibilities extend to maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of stations across all meal periods to support seamless dining operations. The position also involves transporting dirty tableware to dishwashing areas promptly and following safety protocols by wearing protective equipment and adhering to MSDS and OSHA standards. Additionally, Server Assistants contribute actively to the sustainability efforts through adherence to HHM's EarthView program.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to develop their hospitality career within a welcoming and professional kitchen and dining environment. The role presents a clear potential career path from Food Runner to Restaurant Server and Restaurant Floor Manager, offering growth and development within the Salt Wood and HHM Hotels framework. The work schedule may vary, including holiday and weekend shifts, requiring stamina for standing, walking, pushing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing various physical tasks such as bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
