The role of Server onboard American Cruise Lines ships during the 2026 cruising season is a prominent and rewarding temporary position lasting approximately 28 weeks. Servers are essential contributors to the onboard hotel and restaurant experience, serving as proud representatives of the American Cruise Lines brand. Their primary responsibility is to ensure guests enjoy an elegant and memorable dining experience by providing attentive, courteous, and efficient service throughout breakfast, lunch, dinner, and cocktail hours. This position requires individuals who are enthusiastic about hospitality and have a positive attitude while working under pressure in a dynamic and unique environment at sea. Servers will perform a variety of duties including setting and breaking down dining areas, presenting menus, catering to specific culinary requests, and suggesting food and wine pairings with expert knowledge. Additionally, servers may assist in greeting guests upon embarkation, serving afternoon tea, snacks, and catering to evening entertainment events, thus contributing to the overall guest experience onboard. Job Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen years of age
  • Must be American citizen or Green Card holder
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the job with or without accommodation
  • Pre-employment drug test including marijuana and other controlled substances
  • Strict prohibition of alcohol consumption while working
  • Compliance with grooming standards including limitations on visible tattoos and piercings
  • Ability to work up to 12 hours per day
  • Ability to stand for entire shift
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 20 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to frequently bend, squat and reach
  • Ability to live and work on board a vessel continuously
  • Ability to use stairs frequently
  • Temporary employment not to exceed 28 weeks
  • Must quickly assist in emergencies by climbing ladders and passing through small hatches

Job Qualifications

  • At least eighteen years of age

  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain positive attitude
  • Prior hospitality or serving experience is a plus but not required
  • Willingness to live and work onboard a vessel for extended periods

Job Duties

  • Provide guests with an elegant and memorable dining experience
  • Efficiently set-up and break-down breakfast, lunch, dinner, and cocktail hour including setting tables, arranging linen, silverware, china and glassware
  • Cater to all culinary requests in an efficient manner
  • Acknowledge guests by name, escort them to their tables, present food and beverage menus, suggest particular courses and wines, and answer any questions about menu items
  • Relay orders to the galley and serve various courses and beverages ensuring presentation is proper and garnished
  • Perform additional functions such as greeting guests upon embarkation, serving afternoon teas and snacks, and catering evening entertainment
  • Maintain composure and positive attitude while working under pressure in a shipboard environment
