Job Description
JW Marriott is part of Marriott International's luxury portfolio, comprising more than 100 exquisite properties located in prominent gateway cities and distinctive resort destinations worldwide. Renowned for its commitment to exceptional hospitality, JW Marriott prides itself on an associate-first philosophy, recognizing that the happiness and well-being of its employees directly translate into remarkable guest experiences. The brand is driven by a legacy inspired by J. Willard Marriott, its founder, fostering a culture that values confidence, innovation, authenticity, and intuitive service.
At JW Marriott, associates work in a unique environment where camaraderie flourishes among a diverse group of colleagues. The company emphasizes opportunities for continuous training, professional development, and recognition, all within a luxury setting that promotes holistic well-being. This commitment is embodied in "The JW Treatment"™ philosophy, ensuring that exceptional guest service begins with exceptional care for its employees. Being part of JW Marriott means joining a global team where individuals can truly do their best work, discover their purpose, belong, and grow into the best version of themselves.
This position is based at the JW Marriott located at 151 W Adams St, Chicago, Illinois. The role is a non-management, part-time position within the Food and Beverage and Culinary category, offering an hourly wage ranging from $10.22 to $13.63, with eligibility for tips. The work schedule primarily requires weekend availability, aligning with operational needs in hospitality. The position type is non-management, suited for individuals looking to contribute to the guest experience without supervisory responsibilities.
The core responsibility of this role involves serving food courses and alcoholic beverages to guests, adhering to the highest standards of service excellence. The associate is expected to set tables according to the event type and service protocols, provide knowledgeable menu assistance, and effectively communicate guest orders, special meal requirements, allergies, and dietary restrictions to kitchen staff. The role also includes handling transaction recording using the MICROS system, ensuring accurate billing and payment processing.
Maintaining cleanliness of workstations, utensils, and guest areas throughout the shift is vital, along with completing closing duties such as restocking and securing the workspace. The associate must follow all company safety and security policies, promptly reporting any accidents or unsafe conditions, while complying with required safety training and certifications. Presentation and professionalism are imperative; associates are expected to maintain a clean and professional appearance and safeguard proprietary information and company assets.
Guest interaction is a significant component, with the associate welcoming and acknowledging guests in line with company standards, anticipating and responding to service needs, assisting guests with disabilities, and ensuring guests feel genuinely appreciated. The role demands clear and professional communication skills, teamwork, and positive interpersonal relations to support collective goals and address concerns within the team.
Physically, the job requires the ability to stand, sit, or walk throughout the work shift, handle objects weighing up to 25 pounds unaided, and heavier items with assistance. The associate should be able to navigate various surfaces, stairs, and ramps, and perform movements involving bending, twisting, and reaching. This demanding role requires resilience, agility, and a commitment to delivering outstanding service in a fast-paced environment.
This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to gain valuable experience in luxury hospitality, developing skills in guest service, teamwork, and operational excellence within a globally respected brand. JW Marriott offers a supportive, inclusive workplace committed to diversity and equal opportunity, where employees are celebrated for their unique backgrounds and contributions.
