Job Description

The Heathman Hotel stands as a beacon of Portland's rich cultural heritage and timeless hospitality. Established in 1927, this historic hotel has long been a gathering place for artists, writers, performers, and travelers who are drawn to the vibrant creative spirit of the city. Located in the heart of downtown Portland, The Heathman Hotel seamlessly blends classic elegance with modern comforts, offering guests an unforgettable experience that honors the past while embracing the present. The hotel’s refined atmosphere and commitment to exceptional service make it a landmark destination for visitors seeking a unique and memorable stay in Portland. As part of the Makeready collection, The Heathman Hotel benefits from a dynamic approach to hospitality that emphasizes the health, happiness, and well-being of its team members through a variety of progressive benefits and a supportive work environment.

The Front of House Team Member role at The Heathman Hotel is pivotal in delivering the warm, personalized service that guests have come to expect from this iconic establishment. Individuals in this position serve as the first point of contact and act as storytellers who engage and educate guests about the menu, ingredients, culinary philosophy, and beverage offerings. This role demands a high standard of professionalism combined with genuine enthusiasm and knowledge about the culinary experience offered at the hotel. Ideal candidates are those who are passionate about hospitality, detail-oriented, and eager to provide exceptional guest experiences in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

This position is a unique opportunity to be part of a limited-time culinary residency, where the emphasis is on partnerships with renowned chefs and the delivery of chef-driven, tasting menu services. Candidates with experience in elevated dining environments such as Michelin-recognized restaurants, luxury hotels, private clubs, or other chef-driven settings will find this role particularly rewarding. The role requires not only practical hospitality skills but also a continuous commitment to learning and excellence. Front of House Team Members must be able to engage warmly and personally with guests, fostering memorable experiences that highlight the hotel’s dedication to culinary storytelling and superior service.

Working at The Heathman Hotel means joining a team that values curiosity, energy, and collaboration. Team members are encouraged to grow professionally within a culture that respects and supports individual contributions. The position offers a balanced work schedule including evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts to accommodate operational needs. The Heathman and Makeready LLC prioritize fostering an inclusive workplace where diversity is celebrated and all employees can thrive as their authentic selves. This role provides a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, medical, dental and vision coverage, maternity and paternity leave, pet insurance, company-matched dependent care and 401(k), as well as a student loan repayment program. These benefits underscore the company’s commitment to the well-being and long-term success of its team members, making The Heathman Hotel not just an employer but a community dedicated to hospitality excellence.
