Job Description
This opportunity is with a full-service Bar and Grill situated within a vibrant 55-plus retirement community. This establishment is dedicated to providing exceptional dining experiences to its patrons who mainly comprise senior community members. With a focus on a welcoming atmosphere, quality service, and delicious food and beverages, the facility creates a comfortable and enjoyable environment for its guests. The bar and grill are designed to serve the unique needs and preferences of the retirement community, ensuring that both food and drink offerings accommodate a wide range of tastes, dietary requirements, and social expectations.
The position available is that of a Server, responsible for greeting and serving food and beverages to guests warmly and professionally. As a part-time role classified under non-seasonal, hourly, and non-exempt employment, it requires individuals who can deliver excellent customer service while working flexible hours that may include nights and weekends. This role is integral in maintaining the high standards of guest satisfaction through attentive and prompt service. Serving within this community demands strong interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to address member and guest needs with patience and respect.
The Server will be the first point of contact for patrons upon seating, ensuring each guest feels welcomed by promptly providing menus and, where local water conservation laws allow, filling glasses with ice water. The position requires attentiveness to detail when taking orders and communicating them accurately to kitchen staff, including any special cooking instructions. Emotional intelligence is vital when interacting with senior guests to ensure that their experience is personalized and comfortable. Beyond order taking, the Server is responsible for assembling dishes on trays, serving meals correctly, and checking back with guests to confirm satisfaction.
The role also includes responsibilities such as handling cash and credit card payments in line with standard operating procedures, maintaining cleanliness of the dining room and bus station, and performing closing duties. Servers are expected to participate in pre-meal meetings to stay informed about menu changes, promotions, and operational updates. Regular submission of signed tip declaration forms is also a part of the job. Overall, the Server role is crucial for enhancing the quality of life of the retirement community members by delivering professional dining service in a respectful and courteous manner.
This position favors candidates with at least one year of serving experience and a high school education. Effective communication skills—both written and verbal—are critical, as is the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must demonstrate a problem-solving mindset and a positive, professional demeanor. This job is perfect for individuals passionate about hospitality and committed to fostering a friendly and attentive dining experience for older adults.
