Job Description

The Detroit Athletic Club (DAC) is a prestigious private club located in the heart of Detroit, Michigan, known for its rich history, elegant atmosphere, and exceptional service standards. Established in 1887, the DAC has since become a cornerstone of Detroit's social and athletic life, offering its members not only top-tier athletic facilities but also exquisite dining and event experiences. As a private club, it emphasizes tradition, excellence, and a strong sense of community among its members and staff alike. The club caters to a diverse and discerning membership base, providing a wide range of amenities including fine dining options, banquet facilities, athletic and fitness programs, and social events throughout the year.

The Banquet Server role at the DAC is integral to maintaining the club's high standards of hospitality and service. This role involves delivering impeccable banquet service during the club's various events and functions, which include weddings, corporate meetings, private parties, and club member gatherings. The Banquet Server is responsible for creating a seamless and memorable dining experience by following established service protocols, maintaining professionalism, and demonstrating expert hospitality skills. This position requires close attention to detail, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team. Servers must arrive prepared, fully groomed, and in proper uniform, ready to uphold the club standards and ensure each event is executed to perfection.

Responsibilities extend beyond serving food and beverages. The Banquet Server must be knowledgeable about event specifications as outlined by the Banquet Event Orders (BEO), coordinate with banquet management and fellow team members, and assist with setup and breakdown of rooms to facilitate a smooth operation. Maintaining cleanliness and organization of service areas, inventory management (such as linens, silverware, and props), and communication with supervisors about any maintenance or housekeeping issues are also key aspects of this role. Additionally, the Banquet Server contributes to the club atmosphere by fostering teamwork and camaraderie within the department and across the entire staff. The role also emphasizes continuous learning through participation in pre-function meetings and training sessions.

This position fits those passionate about hospitality, eager to work in a fast-paced yet refined environment where service quality and member satisfaction are paramount. While prior fine dining hospitality experience is preferred, the club offers opportunities for motivated individuals to develop their skills. Certfications such as TIPs on premise and a State of Michigan food handler's card are required to comply with health and safety regulations. Due to the nature of the hospitality industry, flexibility in schedule is essential, as employees may need to work varying hours to support the club's event calendar. Overall, the Banquet Server at the Detroit Athletic Club is a vital ambassador of the club’s commitment to excellence, tasked with providing an exceptional experience that aligns with the club’s esteemed reputation.
