The role of a Server at Smithfield Station is pivotal in shaping the guest experience by providing friendly, responsive, and efficient table service. Servers are responsible for engaging with guests, presenting menus, guiding them through menu selections including specials and wine pairings, taking food and drink orders accurately, and ensuring that guests’ needs are met throughout their dining journey. You will also utilize various tools and technology such as point-of-sale systems, touch screen monitors, and credit card processing machines to facilitate operations efficiently. The position requires physical stamina as servers stand for extended periods and handle trays and food containers weighing up to 50 pounds.

Job Requirements
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Basic knowledge of dining room and service procedures and functions
- Basic mathematical skills
- Able to understand and speak clearly using the predominant language(s) of guests
- Able to handle money and operate a point-of-sale system
- Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
- Able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food and containers weighing up to 50 pounds
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in a restaurant server role advantageous
- Basic knowledge of dining room procedures and customer service
- Ability to communicate clearly in the predominant language(s) of guests
- Basic math skills for handling payments and orders
- Experience using point-of-sale systems beneficial
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills

Job Duties
- Promote mission of Smithfield Station consistently
- Monitor and observe guests dining experience to ensure satisfaction
- Present menus and answer questions about items and services
- Inform guests of menu changes and daily specials
- Explain menu item preparations and ingredients
- Describe and recommend wines
- Take food and beverage orders
- Write down or memorize orders and enter them into computer systems
- Check guests' identification for alcoholic beverage consumption eligibility
- Serve food and beverages and prepare specialty dishes
- Prepare checks detailing meal costs and taxes
- Collect payments including cash, credit, and gift cards
- Clean tables and counters after dining
- Prepare hot, cold, and mixed drinks and chill wine bottles
- Set up dining areas including linens, silverware, and glassware
- Remove dishes and glasses for cleaning
- Assist host or hostess with reservations, greetings, seating, and takeout orders
- Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and trash removal
- Bring wine selections to tables and pour
- Prepare salads and desserts for parties
- Escort guests to tables
- Fill salt, pepper, and sugar containers
- Thank guests and invite return visits
- Attend employee meetings and suggest improvements
- Coordinate with employees to meet guests' needs
- Fill in for fellow employees as needed
- Provide guests with local information and directions
