The Server position at Duffy's reports directly to the General Manager and is critical in delivering the restaurant's promise of excellent service. The server's main responsibility is to follow a structured service sequence that creates a welcoming environment and satisfies guests throughout their visit. Servers act as the primary point of contact between the kitchen and the guests, requiring strong communication skills and a thorough understanding of the menu. Tasks include escorting guests to their tables, explaining menu items in detail, answering questions, upselling to enhance the dining experience, and ensuring orders are accurately recorded and delivered. Knowledge of the MVP program is essential, as servers are expected to review and promote it to guests effectively.

Maintaining a clean and organized dining area is also part of the role, including clearing tables, resetting after guests leave, and assisting with general cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, and tidying service stations. Servers contribute to the smooth operation of the restaurant by supporting hosts with phone orders, greeting guests, and managing takeout requests. In all interactions, servers maintain a positive, professional approach with both coworkers and customers.

This position requires physical stamina, as servers are expected to stand and walk for prolonged periods, handle repeated movements, and manage lifting tasks up to 40 pounds. The role demands attention to detail, a cooperative attitude, and the ability to remain composed during stressful situations. Job Duties

  • Escort guests to their tables when needed
  • review MVP program with all guests
  • demonstrate strong MVP program knowledge
  • review menus and answer questions about menu items
  • upsell to improve dining experience and raise check average
  • explain how menu items are prepared describing ingredients and cooking methods
  • write guests food orders on order pads and repeat the order back
  • input guests order accurately into POS system
  • check with guests to ensure enjoyment and correct any problems
  • check guests identification for alcohol consumption age requirements
  • collect payments
  • remove dishes and glasses and take to kitchen for cleaning throughout visit and after guests leave
  • clean and reset tables after guests have finished dining
  • assist host or hostess with phone answering, to-go orders, greeting, seating, and thanking guests
  • perform cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, tidying server station, taking out trash, and cleaning bathroom
  • roll silverware and set up food stations or dining areas for next shift or large parties
  • stock service areas with supplies like coffee, tea, beverages, napkins, side plates
  • refill salt, pepper shakers and wipe down table tents
  • ask guests to leave a review
  • maintain a positive and professional approach to coworkers and customers
