Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Food Handlers Permit if required per state regulations
  • Six months experience in a long-term care environment preferred
  • Experience in food service desired

Job Duties

  • Prepares and/or pre-portions food such as beverages, salads, desserts, and other assigned items for regular and therapeutic diets according to planned menus
  • Prepares and/or portions food using proper food handling and safety techniques according to established policies and regulations
  • Ensures food is served in an attractive and appetizing manner
  • Utilizes standardized recipes to prepare menu items
  • Delivers meals and snacks to designated areas according to established schedules
  • Maintains proper food temperature during preparation and service and records temperatures
  • Serves resident meals/snacks accurately following diet orders and food preferences
  • Uses correct portion control utensils during food preparation and service
  • Labels, dates, and stores food properly
  • Monitors and records refrigerator/freezer temperatures and reports discrepancies
  • Washes dishes and kitchen items according to procedures and maintains hygiene
  • Keeps work areas clean and uncluttered during food preparation and service
  • Performs cleaning assignments using appropriate chemicals
  • Uses protective equipment and follows infection control protocols
  • Ensures availability and proper storage of dishes and kitchen items
  • Assists in receiving, storing, and verifying food and supply invoices
  • Reports inadequate stock levels
  • Uses food supplies and equipment economically
  • Maintains kitchen security
  • Performs duties using proper safety techniques
  • Operates and maintains kitchen equipment and reports problems
  • Completes tasks within established time frames
  • Recommends improvements in recipes, menus, and food service quality
  • Works cooperatively with nursing center departments
  • Interacts positively with residents, families, and visitors
  • Ensures punctuality and regular attendance for assigned shifts
