Job Description

American Cruise Lines is the largest U.S. cruise company specializing in unique experiences exploring America’s rivers and coasts. Known for its commitment to showcasing the beauty and culture of the United States, American Cruise Lines operates a fleet of small, modern, and elegant ships that provide guests with intimate and memorable voyages. The company prides itself on offering exceptional hospitality and service, driven by core values of optimism, commitment, patriotism, and merit. American Cruise Lines delivers authentic and immersive travel experiences, visiting over 50 itineraries across more than 35 states, allowing passengers to truly connect with America’s rich heritage and diverse landscapes.

The role of Server aboard American Cruise Lines is an exciting opportunity for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and who wish to be part of a premier hospitality team on board one of America’s finest small ships. This temporary position lasts for approximately 28 weeks during the 2026 cruising season and involves working onboard the ship’s hotel and restaurant facilities. As a Server, you will play an essential role in delivering an elegant and memorable dining experience to guests, representing the American Cruise Lines brand with pride and professionalism.

Servers are responsible for a variety of duties including setting up and breaking down meal services for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and cocktail hours, ensuring tables are impeccably arranged with linen, silverware, china, and glassware. The position requires attentiveness to guests’ needs by catering to their culinary requests efficiently and personally acknowledging guests by name. Servers escort guests to their tables, present menus with enthusiasm and expert knowledge, suggest meal and wine pairings, and answer questions regarding menu items to enhance the dining experience.

Additionally, Servers efficiently relay orders to the kitchen (galley) and serve courses and beverages with great care, focusing on presentation and garnishing to maintain a high standard of service. Beyond regular dining duties, Servers may also greet guests during embarkation, serve afternoon teas and snacks, and support evening entertainment events, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the cruise.

American Cruise Lines offers competitive wages ranging from $1,000 to $1,400 per week, complemented by additional bonuses. The company also covers major living expenses onboard, including travel, room and board, uniforms, and training, providing employees with a unique chance to save earnings while gaining invaluable hospitality experience. This entry-level role is an excellent foundation for those looking to build a career in hospitality and the cruise industry. It comes with the opportunity to travel extensively across the United States, form meaningful connections with fellow crew members and guests, and experience life at sea while developing essential skills in customer service and teamwork.

The position demands physical stamina and adaptability due to the ship's constant motion and unique working conditions, including the ability to stand for entire shifts, frequently lift up to 20 pounds, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, and utilize stairs regularly. Servers must be able to work long days of up to 12 hours and respond effectively in emergencies, including climbing ladders and moving through confined spaces. American Cruise Lines maintains grooming standards that include restrictions on visible tattoos and piercings, reflecting its commitment to professionalism and safety.

This full-time, nonexempt, temporary position requires candidates to be at least 18 years of age and either American citizens or Green Card holders. All shipboard employees must pass pre-employment drug testing as mandated by federal law and the Department of Transportation. The role forbids the consumption of alcohol during the period of employment to ensure the safety and conscientious service of all guests. Employment with American Cruise Lines is an equal opportunity offering, focused on business needs and individual qualifications without discrimination.
