Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Staff DevOps Engineer to join their dynamic and diverse team located in Huntsville, Alabama or Roy, Utah. The Staff DevOps Engineer plays a critical role in supporting software development and deployment processes by designing, configuring, and maintaining the infrastructure and cloud resources required across all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). This individual will build and manage continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, write scripts and automation configurations, and ensure system reliability and security. Responsibilities also include proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, patching of build and deployment pipelines, automated infrastructure provisioning through infrastructure-as-code tools, and vulnerability remediation. The role entails mentoring junior staff on DevOps best practices, collaborating with business partners to identify automation opportunities, and providing application support including configuration and troubleshooting. The candidate will serve as a key liaison supporting the Software Development Engineering (SDE) architecture guidelines by participating in agile processes and managing system issues by contributing to a rotating 24x7 on-call support schedule.

Candidates for this position must have a strong background in DevOps with experience in build tools (e.g., Maven, Jenkins), scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash), container and orchestration technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker), Linux and Windows operating environments, and automation/configuration management tools like Ansible or Chef. Applicants are required to hold an active U.S. Government Secret clearance with eligibility for Top Secret clearance and Special Access Program approval. This role entails travel approximately 10% of the time and offers a competitive salary range from $152,900 to $229,300 annually, with additional compensation potential including overtime, shift differentials, and discretionary bonuses.   • Twelve years of experience with a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Four years experience with build tools and/or continuous integration environments
  • Two years experience with Jira/Confluence in an Agile environment
  • Proficiency with Linux software development tools
  • Four years experience with Microsoft and Linux Red Hat operating systems
  • Four years experience with scripting languages
  • Four years of DevOps experience with container technologies and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with container orchestration technologies
  • Ability to obtain CAM certification within 3 months
  • IAT Level II certification or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Available for rotating 24x7 on-call support
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study or equivalent experience
  • Twelve years of experience or equivalent additional experience in lieu of a degree
  • Active U.S. Government Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret security clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval
  • Four years experience with build tools such as Maven, Ant, GNU make and/or continuous integration environments like Jenkins, GitLab, Bamboo
  • Experience with repositories such as Nexus, JFROG
  • Two years experience with Jira/Confluence in an Agile environment
  • Proficiency with Linux based software development tools
  • Four years experience with Windows and Linux Red Hat operating systems
  • Four years experience with scripting languages including PERL, Python, Bash, YAML
  • Four years of DevOps experience with container technologies and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, OpenShift
  • Ability to obtain Northrop Grumman Cost Account Management (CAM) certification within 3 months of hire
  • IAT Level II certification or ability to obtain within 6 months

Job Duties

  • Assist with the design of, as well as configure and maintain, infrastructure and/or cloud resources necessary to reliably host, run, and support applications through all phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Create and maintain continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
  • Write scripts and configurations to automate software testing, deployment, and maintenance in a manner consistent with software engineering best practices
  • Proactively monitor build and deployment pipelines and infrastructure, apply patches, troubleshoot issues, and resolve errors
  • Automate infrastructure and/or cloud resource deployments and configuration using infrastructure-as-code tools
  • Remediate findings from vulnerability scanning and penetration testing
  • Informally mentor other staff in DevOps concepts and processes
  • Work with peers and business partners to identify workflows or processes where automation can improve efficiency and or reduce costs
  • Provide application support, configuration, installation and troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, identify the cause, determine possible resolutions, and remediate issues in existing applications
  • Serve as Product Owner managing priorities, scope and schedule, as needed
  • Directly support the SDE Architect by understanding the architecture, design, requirements, and execution details to be able to communicate the key elements to the Product Owners, Assignment Managers, Scrum masters, and element lead
  • Participate as a stakeholder in the software engineering rigor processes to ensure SDE tasks and board submittal processes represent the desired end qualities of the SDE managerial and technical leadership
  • Provide rotating 24x7 on-call support to lead the resolution of system issues and anomalies
