The Senior Therapeutic Area Specialist (TAS) role in Hematology at BMS is a critical and highly specialized position responsible for driving the adoption of BMS medicines within the hematology portfolio across a defined territory. This full-time, field-based role requires spending 100% of the time engaging directly with healthcare providers (HCPs), including regional thought leaders, community physicians, medical groups, and office staff. The TAS is key to delivering an exceptional and differentiated customer experience by providing deep scientific dialogue consistent with approved product indications and labels. Utilizing advanced scientific knowledge and sales expertise, the TAS promotes understanding and demand for BMS medicines, supporting appropriate patient use.

The role requires building and maintaining strong professional relationships and credibility with healthcare customers by offering balanced, evidence-based information and effective communication. The TAS collaborates cross-functionally with internal teams to enhance the overall customer experience and supports special programs such as speaker engagements and live presentations to further educate healthcare professionals. With a focus on compliance and ethical promotion, the successful candidate prioritizes patient safety while meeting or exceeding sales targets. Strong data analysis skills, technological adaptability, and a customer-focused mindset are essential to strategically engage with providers and optimize outreach efforts.

This role is based in Detroit, Michigan, and offers a competitive starting compensation range from $144,500 to $175,100 annually, with additional incentive cash and stock opportunities available depending on eligibility. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or healthcare field
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience including healthcare sales or scientific liaison roles
  • Proven track record in hematology or oncology pharmaceutical sales
  • Effective communication skills for scientific and clinical information presentation
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with healthcare providers and stakeholders
  • Willingness to travel extensively across assigned territory as this is a field-based role
  • Valid driver’s license with good standing and acceptable driving risk level
  • Ability to use technological tools like CE^3, CRM software, and Medical on Call platform
  • Commitment to compliance with healthcare laws, regulations, and company policies
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills
  • Proven customer-centric and patient-focused mindset
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

Job Qualifications

  • Advanced scientific degree such as PharmD, PhD, MD, or equivalent
  • Preferred 5+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience as healthcare sales, Medical Science Liaison (MSL), healthcare professional (HCP), or nurse
  • Proven ability to communicate scientific or clinical data accurately and convincingly
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining strong credibility with key customers and stakeholders
  • Required experience in hematology/oncology field
  • Strong account management skills with a proven sales performance track record
  • Ability to work effectively cross-functionally with a positive team mindset
  • Strong selling and promotional skills demonstrated by past achievements

Job Duties

  • Promotes approved indications of BMS products within a defined territory or region to meet or exceed assigned sales targets in a compliant manner
  • Creates demand for BMS medicines by articulating in a balanced manner the clinical and scientific rationale for use of products in appropriate patients
  • Engages with and continuously maintains/grows a high level of scientific expertise in all assigned products and therapeutic areas
  • Prepares and successfully implements comprehensive territory and account plans
  • Proactively uses available tools such as CE^3 to derive insights and to dynamically inform call plans
  • Demonstrates scientific expertise and passion in using approved scientific resources and publications to present information to HCPs and ensures medical accuracy
  • Conducts in-office presentations and discusses product-related scientific information with HCPs that is consistent with label
  • Organizes external speaker programs, selecting speakers from list approved by Speakers Bureau and facilitating scheduling and logistics
  • Maintains a high level of working expertise on emerging data for approved indications
  • Engages real-time medical support through Medical on Call to reactively answer unsolicited questions and complex technical inquiries
  • Proactively collaborates with other field teams to ensure the best Customer Experience for HCPs
  • Gathers and shares relevant insights and information internally with the appropriate stakeholders to enable BMS to better serve its customers
  • Complies with all laws, regulations, and policies that govern the conduct of BMS
