Job Description
AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) is a global leader in the semiconductor industry, renowned for designing and manufacturing innovative computing and graphics solutions. Established with a strong mission to accelerate next-generation computing experiences, AMD has cemented its reputation by developing products that power AI, data centers, PCs, gaming consoles, and embedded systems. The company thrives in a culture of innovation and collaboration, emphasizing bold ideas, human ingenuity, and inclusivity to tackle the world's most pressing technological challenges. This unique culture fosters an environment where employees are empowered to push the boundaries of innovation, ensuring AMD remains at the forefront of advancements in AI and GPU technologies.
The Test Engineering Technician role at AMD is focused on supporting the development of cutting-edge GPU technology within a dynamic lab environment. This position plays a critical part in driving the local execution of standardized workflows by working collaboratively with cross-functional teams in Services and Engineering. The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in semiconductor chip technology and significant hands-on experience in lab settings. This role demands a professional who excels in both technical aptitude and interpersonal skills, enabling seamless cooperation across various organizational functions.
As a Test Engineering Technician, you will undertake a diverse range of responsibilities, including managing server upgrades, repairs, and automated OS provisioning processes. You will oversee the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of server and coolant platforms, conducting diagnostics according to AMD's standardized procedures. Your role will also involve executing reliability testing protocols such as shock and vibration, electromagnetic compatibility interference (EMCI), and temperature cycling. Critical to this position is the ability to communicate effectively, report incidents promptly, and contribute to a positive team environment by participating in meetings and sharing knowledge.
In addition to technical expertise, the role requires physical capability to handle tools and equipment safely, including lifting up to 35 pounds, climbing ladders, and adhering to safety protocols involving personal protective and ESD gear. The work environment is fast-paced and project-driven, requiring a motivated, detail-oriented individual dedicated to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
AMD values experience with server hardware and racks, IT cabling management, X-ray scopes, and component-level work. Candidates with prior experience testing and troubleshooting semiconductor GPUs, switches, and CPUs in data center labs will find this role a perfect match. Familiarity with software tools such as MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint (including pivot tables), and Windows Server operating systems is also highly desirable. Knowledge of Linux PXE services, scripting languages like PowerShell, Python, or Bash, and Surface Mount Technology (SMT) soldering further enhance candidate suitability.
The academic qualifications preferred include an Associate degree in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, or equivalent experience. Industry-recognized certifications such as CompTIA A+, Server+, MCP, or MSCE strengthen candidacy. Above all, the role demands someone with a positive, humble attitude who is results-driven, committed to meeting deadlines, and thrives in a collaborative team setting.
Located in Secaucus, NJ, this position offers two shifts: 1st shift from Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM ET, and 2nd shift from 2:30 PM to 11:00 PM ET. Please note that this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. AMD's commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity reflects in its hiring practices, encouraging a diverse applicant pool and ensuring accommodations throughout recruitment as needed. Benefits offered are competitive and comprehensive, supporting employees in all aspects of their professional and personal lives.
Joining AMD means being part of a pioneering team that shapes the future of computing technologies. This role offers substantial career advancement opportunities within a world-class technology company dedicated to innovation, collaboration, and excellence. If you possess the technical skills, drive, and collaborative spirit, this position provides an exciting platform to contribute meaningfully to AMD's mission while advancing your career in semiconductor engineering.
