Job Description

Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is a premier, full-service acute-care hospital that opened in June 2017, offering a wide spectrum of advanced healthcare services mirroring those of its flagship hospital located in the Texas Medical Center. Situated strategically at the intersection of Interstate 45 and Texas State Highway 242, the hospital features a 725,000-square-foot facility designed to provide comprehensive medical care with a focus on patient satisfaction and cutting-edge treatment options. The expansive campus houses two medical office buildings providing specialty services including a Breast Care Center, Cancer Center, infusion center, heart and vascular services, neurology, orthopedics and sports medicine, rehabilitation services, wellness services, and an outpatient laboratory, alongside multiple multispecialty physician practices. In January 2022, the hospital underwent a substantial $250 million expansion called the Healing Tower project that added 106 new beds focused on medical-surgical and women's services and incorporated nine new operating rooms, as well as expanded the endoscopy center, emergency department, and diagnostic imaging department with an enhanced neurodiagnostic and interventional center, significantly bolstering its capacity and technological capabilities. Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is committed to excellence in healthcare delivery and supports an environment of professional growth and equality, standing as an Equal Opportunity Employer.

The Sr Surgical Technologist role at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is a critical position within the operating room team, responsible for providing proficient knowledge and skills for safe and efficient surgical procedures. This non-exempt position requires independent functioning with sound judgment to carry out delegated tasks associated with operating room support and related procedures. A key component of the role involves observing and reporting patient conditions or problems to licensed nurses or surgeons to ensure patient safety and high-quality care. Beyond the responsibilities of a typical Surgical Technologist, the Senior level position carries additional duties of mentoring, guiding, and training less experienced surgical technologists by utilizing expertise and clinical knowledge to foster skills development and orientation. Staff holding this position are expected to perform assigned non-nursing functions and embody relationship-centered care consistent with Houston Methodist values. Core duties include preparing the operating room and surgical instruments, anticipating the needs of surgeons and nursing staff, assisting in surgical counts, maintaining sterile environments, and contributing to quality and safety initiatives geared towards continuous improvement in patient outcomes. The Sr Surgical Technologist plays a leadership role in promoting teamwork and communication among the healthcare team and actively participates in shared governance and hospital committees to drive innovation and quality enhancements. This role demands proficiency with hospital databases such as EPIC, familiarity with surgical procedure software, and expertise in decontamination processes. Candidates must be prepared for on-call duties and must wear scrubs as work attire. This position supports the hospital's mission to provide outstanding surgical care while promoting professional development, operational efficiency, and patient-centric services, thereby strengthening the hospital's reputation as a leading healthcare institution in the Houston metropolitan area.
