Job Description
Liberty Mutual is a leading global insurance company renowned for its commitment to innovation and digital transformation in the insurance industry. As a Fortune 100 company, Liberty Mutual combines the dynamic creativity characteristic of a tech startup with the stability and comprehensive benefits that come from a well-established market leader. With its focus on providing peace of mind to customers worldwide, the company continually invests in advanced technologies to improve customer experiences and deliver cutting-edge solutions in the insurance sector.
This particular role is a Senior Software Engineer position within Liberty Mutual's USRM Technology organization, specifically on the Small Commercial Service team. This team plays a crucial role in the Service Experience portfolio, focusing on building and enhancing tools and solutions that directly support customers and agents in the Small Commercial business segment. The Small Commercial Digitization initiative is rapidly growing, representing a significant opportunity to impact how Liberty Mutual leverages digital technologies to transform business operations and improve service delivery.
The Senior Software Engineer at Liberty Mutual is more than a coder; this role requires a technical problem solver who can contribute to highly complex projects, offering solutions that enhance software robustness and maintainability through thorough documentation like deployment guides. It involves a customer-centric approach where translating business requirements into technical applications is key to supporting new software implementations that align with customer needs.
Moreover, this position embodies the role of a motivated mentor, where collaboration and coaching are paramount. The successful candidate will actively support junior engineers, fostering an environment of knowledge sharing and professional growth. Forward thinking is essential, as the engineer must not only address current technical challenges but also proactively identify opportunities to improve performance, quality, and efficiency across systems and processes.
Technologically, the role demands proficiency in multiple software engineering languages and tools such as Java, Python, React, Node.js, Spring Boot, AWS, and RESTful services. A deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and layered systems architectures is necessary, combined with familiarity in system integration testing and agile methodologies. The role also requires a high degree of independence, creativity, and adaptability, especially to thrive in an evolving AI environment where quick learning and initiative are highly valued.
This is a hybrid role requiring presence in the office two days a week at one of the following locations: Boston, MA; Portsmouth, NH; Columbus, OH; Indianapolis, IN; or Plano, TX. The position is open to U.S.-based employees only, and the compensation package is competitive, reflecting skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The salary includes opportunities for growth and may include commission and bonus earning plans based on role-specific factors.
At Liberty Mutual, inclusive culture is a fundamental pillar. The company strives to foster a workplace where diversity of thought and background is embraced and where every employee can thrive, supported by comprehensive benefits, workplace flexibility, and professional development opportunities. Employees are encouraged to contribute to an inclusive environment that supports individual excellence and collective success, ensuring a meaningful impact on the business, customers, and communities served worldwide.
