Tourism and Sports Marketing Division is a specialized division focused on promoting Polk County as a premier destination for leisure travel and sports tourism. This division plays a crucial role in enhancing the economic impact of tourism in Polk County by generating overnight stays in local accommodations and supporting the county's broader economic development initiatives. The division is dedicated to developing and implementing dynamic marketing strategies, organizing special events, and fostering strong partnerships with tourism industry stakeholders both domestically and internationally. It works closely with commercial airlines, travel agents, tour operators, and other key players in the tourism sector to position Polk County as a top travel destination. The Senior Sales and Event Supervisor role within the Tourism and Sports Marketing Division is a pivotal position responsible for leading marketing, sales, and promotional activities aimed at boosting Polk County's visibility and appeal as a tourism destination. This exempt position, classified at PG 18, offers an annual salary range of $59,404 to $89,107, reflecting the seniority and expertise required for the role. The position involves extensive travel both within the United States and internationally to promote Polk County's tourism assets, develop niche markets, and maintain strong relationships with key contacts in the sports and tourism industry.

The Senior Sales and Event Supervisor assists the Senior Tourism Sales and Marketing Manager by helping to create and implement comprehensive sales and marketing plans. Key responsibilities include planning sales missions, directing staff at trade shows, and serving as a liaison to tourism industry partners and airlines. The role requires strong budgeting skills, financial control, and the ability to analyze marketing campaign effectiveness. This supervisor also coordinates and manages Polk County owned and partnered special events, including securing venues, recruiting volunteers, and handling on-site event management.

A critical part of the role is organizing Familiarization (FAM) tours to showcase Polk County to travel agents and tour operators, thereby enhancing the destination's marketability. The supervisor is expected to use independent judgment in setting priorities, managing multiple responsibilities, and working with deadlines. They must also effectively communicate with team members, stakeholders, and decision-makers daily.

This position requires a candidate with substantial experience in tourism sales and marketing, excellent skills in public relations, communications, data analysis, and budget preparation. Proficiency with customer relationship management (CRM) programs and Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Teams, is essential. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and at least five years of relevant industry experience with established contacts in the sports and tourism sector. A valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively are mandatory requirements.

Job Requirements

  • Must possess the physical, developmental and mental ability to perform job tasks
  • graduate of an accredited four year college or university
  • minimum of five years sports/tourism sales and marketing related experience
  • established contacts in the sports/tourism industry
  • valid driver’s license and able to secure Florida driver’s license at time of employment
  • willing to travel extensively domestically and internationally
  • able to work before, during and after emergencies including outside normal position scope
  • ability to communicate effectively

Job Duties

  • Assist the Senior Tourism Sales and Marketing Manager with tourism sales and marketing plan creation and implementation
  • travel extensively domestically and internationally to promote Polk County
  • target and develop niche markets to increase overnight stays
  • plan and coordinate sales missions for travel/trade professionals and leisure travelers
  • assist with budgeting, financial control, and analysis

  • generate and qualify leads using tourism databases

  • develop and maintain contact lists for clients and decision makers
  • assist in designing sales and marketing materials
  • assist with management oversight of Client Service Coordinators and interns
  • use independent judgment to set priorities, coordinate work, and handle multiple responsibilities
