Over the past decade, HelloFresh has revolutionized the way people eat by offering high-quality food alongside exciting recipes for various meal occasions. Their mission centers on providing customers with delicious, healthy, and sustainable meal options, fostering a strong community of individuals passionate about nutritious eating. The HelloFresh Group comprises well-known brands including HelloFresh, Green Chef, EveryPlate, Chefs Plate, Factor_, and Youfoodz, all contributing to the company’s innovative approach to meal preparation and delivery.

HelloFresh is currently seeking a Senior Safety Manager for a hybrid role based out of their Newark, NJ Distribution Center. This pivotal position is part of the Environmental Health and Safety team and serves as a site safety leader, charged with supporting site leadership to ensure safe processes and regulatory compliance across all safety regulations. The Senior Safety Manager will leverage lean principles and the hierarchy of controls to protect team members by developing and implementing safety measures that emphasize engineering and ergonomic solutions. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional groups such as Operations, HR, Food Safety and Quality, Operational Excellence, and corporate leadership.

The Senior Safety Manager will drive programs that support operational growth and adopt innovative approaches where creativity, imagination, and measurable results determine success. Candidates for this role must possess strong leadership capabilities, keen attention to detail, resilience, decisive problem-solving skills, and a commitment to excellence. The position entails detailed analysis, tactical execution of safety functions, and project management, including up to 20% site travel. The role offers the opportunity to build partnerships across business teams within fulfillment operations, ensuring safety remains a top priority in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

As part of this role, the Senior Safety Manager will be responsible for identifying safety trends and risks within the facility, educating safety and operations leaders on safety protocols, assessing overall safety performance, and incorporating safety practices into supply chain processes. This includes escalating critical safety issues, compliance gaps, and emerging risks to the network while maintaining safety subject matter expertise and credentials. Regular responsibilities include creating business reviews detailing project progress, incident reports, and trend analysis to maintain a comprehensive overview of safety status.

The role demands proactive floor engagement through auditing safety compliance and program execution, assisting with specialized safety programs, benchmarking safety tools and processes against industry standards, and leading safety manager teams with direct and indirect oversight. Safety compliance and regulatory responsibilities involve mastering Federal and State OSHA regulations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, supporting remediation plans for any safety citations, and acting as a subject matter expert on safety regulations for field teams. Collaboration with compliance partners addressing health exposure in relation to safety enforcement is vital.

Incident response duties include providing support at other sites when needed, conducting cross-building safety audits, and serving as the on-site leader during severe injury incidents. The successful candidate will demonstrate key attributes such as effective communication at all organizational levels, the ability to resolve ambiguous or challenging safety scenarios, programmatic problem-solving skills, and the capacity to inspire and influence change through impactful presentations. Strategic thinking is crucial for identifying root causes and long-term solutions rather than applying one-size-fits-all fixes.

Ideal candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health or a related field, possess certifications such as Certified Safety Professional, and have at least eight years of management experience in occupational safety and health, including knowledge of NFPA standards and multi-site management. Experience with OSHA VPP and working within manufacturing, fulfillment, or distribution environments is preferred.

HelloFresh offers a competitive hourly rate accompanied by a 401(k) company match with immediate vesting, team bonus opportunities, generous paid time off, a flexible attendance policy, and comprehensive health and wellness benefits effective from day one of employment. Employees can also enjoy substantial discounts on HelloFresh meal plan subscriptions and access to inclusive Employee Resource Groups supporting a diverse workforce. The company fosters a collaborative, dynamic work culture driven by purpose and innovation in transforming the food supply chain. HelloFresh is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity, inclusion, and providing reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities throughout the recruitment process.
