The Senior Release Manager/Scrum Master role is a vital position within the Chinook program supporting an Intelligence Community customer. This is a highly visible and mission-critical role where the successful candidate will lead high-performing Agile teams to deliver cutting-edge software solutions directly impacting national security. The position primarily resides in Gaithersburg, Maryland, although other locations such as Alexandria, Virginia; Chantilly, Virginia; Englewood, Colorado; St Louis, Missouri; and Tucson, Arizona are also potential work sites.
As a trusted Agile leader, the Senior Release Manager/Scrum Master will be responsible for orchestrating complex software releases that span multiple teams while embodying servant leadership and coaching principles to empower Agile development teams. The role involves deep collaboration with engineers, Product Managers, DevSecOps professionals, and customer stakeholders to ensure the delivery of secure, high-quality software capabilities within a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. The incumbent will champion the continuous improvement of software delivery processes and enable teams to perform at the highest level, addressing and overcoming intricate challenges in release coordination and Agile execution.
The position requires an active Top Secret/SCI clearance with the capability to pass a Polygraph examination, reflecting the sensitive nature of the programs supported. Candidates must possess a strong blend of Release Management expertise and Scrum Master capabilities, demonstrated by extensive experience managing releases across multiple Scrum teams and superior understanding of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, and Lean practices. Familiarity with DevSecOps environments and Agile lifecycle tools such as Jira and Confluence is essential.

Job Requirements
- US citizenship is required per contract
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with the ability to successfully pass a Polygraph examination
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field or higher
- 8-12 years of relevant experience for Bachelor’s degree holders or 6-10 years for those with a Master’s degree
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or equivalent certification
- 10+ years supporting software development programs
- 5+ years of Release Management experience in Agile environments
- 5+ years serving as a Scrum Master
- Experience managing releases across multiple Scrum teams
- Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, Kanban, and Lean methodologies
- Experience with DevSecOps and CI/CD practices
- Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, or similar tools
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Experience with DoD or Intelligence Community program support
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field and 8-12 years of prior relevant experience or Master's with 6-10 years of prior relevant experience
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Advanced CSM, or Certified Scrum Professional (CSP)
- 10+ years of experience supporting software development programs
- 5+ years of Release Management experience within Agile software development environments
- 5+ years serving as a Scrum Master for Agile development teams
- Experience managing releases across multiple Scrum teams
- Strong understanding of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, and Lean methodologies
- Experience supporting DevSecOps and CI/CD environments
- Experience with Jira, Confluence, or similar Agile lifecycle management tools
- Excellent facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience supporting DoD or Intelligence Community programs
Job Duties
- Develop, maintain, and execute integrated release plans across multiple Agile teams
- Coordinate release readiness activities including planning, integration, testing, deployment, and production support
- Manage release schedules, dependencies, risks, and cross-team coordination
- Facilitate release planning meetings and Go/No-Go decision reviews
- Collaborate with Agile teams to improve CI/CD and release automation
- Track release metrics and communicate release status to program leadership and customer stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with customer governance, configuration management, cybersecurity, and change management processes
- Coordinate release documentation, deployment approvals, and implementation activities
- Serve as Scrum Master for one or more Agile teams
- Facilitate Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives, and Backlog Refinement
- Coach teams on Agile principles, Scrum practices, and continuous improvement
- Remove impediments and proactively resolve delivery risks
- Partner with Product Managers to maintain healthy product backlogs and prioritize work
- Foster collaboration across development, test, security, and operations teams
- Track team velocity, sprint metrics, and Agile health indicators
- Promote transparency, accountability, and continuous process improvement
- Coordinate dependencies across multiple Agile teams and external organizations
- Support Program Increment (PI) Planning and release forecasting
- Identify program risks and recommend mitigation strategies
- Prepare executive-level status reports and release dashboards
- Support process improvement initiatives and Agile maturity efforts
- Mentor Scrum Masters and Agile teams to higher levels of maturity
