Serving as a Level 1 Trauma Center, Banner Thunderbird provides care for acute and complex patient cases, continually expanding its facilities with a new tower scheduled to open in 2026 that will add medical/surgical beds along with Women and Infant Services beds including an increase in NICU capacity.

The role of a Senior Registered Dietitian at Banner Thunderbird is pivotal within the Facilities, Environmental Services, and Culinary category. This full-time position, offering scheduled shifts of either four 10-hour days or five 8-hour days starting between 6:30 am and 8:00 am, is designed for a skilled dietitian who will provide expert leadership and mentorship within the clinical nutrition specialty area. With a $10,000 sign-on bonus available for registered dietitians committing to a 12-month tenure, this role places a strong emphasis on comprehensive patient nutritional assessment and care.

A Senior Registered Dietitian at Banner Thunderbird conducts detailed nutrition-focused physical exams and develops personalized nutrition care plans for complex patient caseloads, with a significant portion of the workload requiring specialty knowledge supported by certifications such as Certified Nutrition Support Clinician or other recognized specialty certifications. The dietitian collaborates extensively within the interdisciplinary healthcare team to optimize nutrition outcomes, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and leads various quality improvement initiatives. This role also entails creating specialized training and educational resources, advising and mentoring colleagues and staff, and engaging in program marketing to further enhance the clinical nutrition services offered.

In this position, the dietitian works independently while providing critical guidance and education to patients, families, and healthcare professionals, ensuring the highest standards in nutrition care. The role requires an individual with strong clinical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a passion for advancing nutritional health within a vibrant hospital setting that is poised for growth and innovation.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or equivalent coursework
  • Registered Dietitian status based on Commission on Dietetic Registration requirements
  • Current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Maintain ongoing registration and provide verification annually
  • Licensure as required by state law
  • Three to five years clinical experience in specialty area
  • Ability to function independently and prioritize workload
  • Documentation of specialty certification for Senior Registered Dietitian role
  • Possession of Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card for behavioral health settings serving children
  • Signed Arizona Criminal History Affidavit upon hire

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or equivalent coursework
  • Registered Dietitian as defined by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) with current registration
  • Minimum three to five years clinical experience in a specialty area
  • Certification in a specialty area such as CNSC, CCTD, CDCES, or other recognized certifications preferred
  • Effective communication and mentorship skills
  • Ability to work independently and lead a dietetic team
  • Maintains current licensure as required by state law

Job Duties

  • Provide comprehensive nutrition assessment of patients' nutritional needs including nutrition-focused physical exams
  • Maintain competency in enteral and parenteral clinical practice protocols and oral nutrition management
  • Write orders to initiate and manage nutrition care for patients including those receiving nutrition support
  • Evaluate effectiveness of care plans and communicate with healthcare team to optimize nutrition outcomes
  • Provide nutrition education to patients, families, and healthcare professionals through development of teaching materials and in-service programs
  • Lead in area of practice by establishing patient care procedures and acting as liaison with nursing areas
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and clinical nutrition CQI projects
