Job Description
The City of Brentwood, located in California, is renowned for its vibrant community and commitment to excellent public services. The Brentwood Parks and Recreation Department plays a pivotal role in enriching the lives of residents through diverse recreational programs, community events, and well-maintained public spaces. As a key part of the city's commitment to providing safe and enjoyable community experiences, the department manages various special events hosted both internally and externally throughout the year. These events range from festivals and fairs to cultural celebrations and are designed to foster community spirit and engagement among residents and visitors alike.
The City of Brentwood is currently seeking a dedicated, part-time Special Event City Representative to act as the on-site liaison during externally hosted special events. This position is hourly paid, with wages ranging from $22.65 to $27.53, and operates on a part-time basis without employee benefits. The selected individual will be essential in ensuring that all events comply with established city policies, permit conditions, and special event regulations. The role demands real-time problem-solving to handle any issues that arise, continual monitoring of event adherence to approved plans, and basic site support that includes tasks such as emptying trash receptacles provided by the city. This position requires availability on Saturdays, reflecting the typical scheduling of many public events.
Although this role does not involve managing or orchestrating the events themselves, it is critical to the smooth and lawful execution of activities. As the City’s primary point of contact on event days, the Special Event City Representative acts as a visible city presence, helping guarantee that safety standards and operational protocols are consistently met. This includes verifying that the setup stage, public safety measures, and overall event operations align with previously authorized plans. The ideal candidate will have a background in customer service or related fields, bringing a courteous and professional approach to interactions with event organizers, vendors, participants, and the general public.
Successful applicants will typically have a high school diploma or equivalent, coupled with around two years of experience in customer service or in roles similar to the City of Brentwood's Recreation Leader II position. Essential certifications are also required, including current American Red Cross Adult/Pediatric First Aid/CPR and AED certifications, which must be maintained throughout employment. The city emphasizes compliance with all health and safety prerequisites, including pre-employment screening such as TB and Hepatitis B tests, plus fingerprinting, to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff and community members alike.
This role offers a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about community service who prefer a part-time commitment with flexible working hours primarily scheduled on Saturdays. The Special Event City Representative acts as a crucial link between the city government and event organizers, helping to uphold Brentwood’s reputation for well-organized, safe, and enjoyable special events that enhance community life. Interested candidates should be prepared to complete the city’s formal application process fully online and respond to supplemental questions about their customer service experience, language skills, and certifications.
