The role of Senior Project Engineer at Baker Construction offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to multiple projects ranging from small to large scale operations. This full-time position involves extensive involvement in project administration, working closely with Project Managers to ensure project cost, schedule, and quality objectives are met. The Senior Project Engineer often serves as the key point of contact for field support, managing critical support functions such as Document Control, QA/QC, scheduling, and project cost control. This role demands a professional who is both technically adept and able to lead or supervise support personnel effectively.
In this position, the Senior Project Engineer will manage the development and maintenance of critical path project schedules and financial reporting to keep projects on track and within budget. They will also be instrumental in analyzing job cost summaries, negotiating change orders, managing procurement processes, and supporting overall project safety and risk management protocols. The role requires active collaboration with superintendents and project managers to optimize resource management and promote positive project outcomes.

Job Requirements
- bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and 4 years’ of experience, or 8 years’ of construction related experience and/or training
- proficiency in microsoft software programs such as word, excel, and powerpoint
- basic understanding of construction software such as primavera, timberline
- ability to understand, customize and modify spreadsheets
- ability to maneuver in and out of job site trailers and various stages of job site terrains
- frequently required to use hands to handle or feel
- regularly required to sit, talk and listen
- occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms
- must have the ability to exert physical effort, handling average weight objects up to 20 pounds
Job Qualifications
- bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university recommended
- proficiency in microsoft word, excel, and powerpoint
- basic understanding of construction software such as primavera and timberline
- ability to understand, customize and modify spreadsheets
- proven experience in construction project management or engineering preferred
- strong analytical and organizational skills
- effective communication and negotiation abilities
- supervisory experience a plus
Job Duties
- support project manager on the management of cost and schedule
- submit and/or approve monthly billings and earned value reports
- manage development of critical path project schedule documents on one medium to large-sized project or multiple small to medium-sized projects
- manage analysis of targets and goals, job cost summaries, and other reports
- work with the superintendent and project manager to affect positive change relating to project resources
- support the project manager by reviewing and negotiating change orders and track status
- manage the procurement process and make recommendations to the project manager
- approve field purchase orders for standard purchase packages
- analyze project financial performance and participate in project financial reviews
- support project engineering and quality
- support project safety and risk management
- oversee the work of direct reports
- ensure a safe work environment
- participate in training and certifications
