Job Description

Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is a state-of-the-art, full-service acute-care facility located in The Woodlands, Texas. Since its opening in June 2017, this 725,000-square-foot hospital has been delivering comprehensive healthcare services which mirror those of the flagship Houston Methodist hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Strategically situated at the intersection of Interstate 45 and Texas State Highway 242, the hospital's expansive campus also includes multiple medical office buildings. These facilities house specialized centers such as a Breast Care Center, Cancer Center, infusion center, heart and vascular services, neurology, orthopedics and sports medicine, rehabilitation services, wellness programs, outpatient laboratory, and a variety of multispecialty physician practices. In January 2022, the hospital unveiled the Healing Tower, a $250 million expansion that enhanced its capacity with 106 additional beds focusing on medical-surgical as well as women’s services. This expansion also brought nine new operating rooms along with upgraded endoscopy, emergency department, and diagnostic imaging facilities featuring an advanced neurodiagnostic and interventional center. Houston Methodist is committed to equity and inclusion as an Equal Opportunity Employer, striving to create a positive and innovative workplace environment.

The Sr Polysomnographic Technologist position at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital is designed for an experienced and fully competent professional specializing in polysomnography—the comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This role operates under the general supervision of the clinical or medical director or their designee, working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver exceptional patient care and safety. The incumbent performs a variety of advanced duties including conducting and scoring sleep studies, preparing preliminary and final reports for physician review, and executing both diagnostic and therapeutic polysomnographic procedures. Responsibilities extend to multiple and complex sleep study tests such as Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing (MWT), parasomnia studies, pulmonary artery pressure assessment, and oxygen titration.

More than performing clinical work, the Sr Polysomnographic Technologist also plays a critical role in quality assurance and process improvement initiatives within the sleep disorders department. This position actively mentors and educates other technologists and students, contributes to developing and delivering in-service training programs, and serves as a valuable resource for procedural and clinical expertise. The candidate must demonstrate sound judgment, advanced clinical skills, and the ability to manage challenging patient care situations effectively. Adherence to standards set forth by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT), the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), and Houston Methodist ensures that patient safety and customer service remain top priorities.

This role is non-exempt and requires that the technologist works regular hours with expectations for high-level autonomy, problem-solving, and clinical decision-making. Knowledge of hospital and sleep study information systems, proficiency in computer operations, and strong communication skills are vital to focus on delivering a positive patient experience. This position may require travel within the Houston metropolitan area and mandates the use of scrubs and department-approved attire. The successful candidate will contribute toward improving employee engagement and patient satisfaction scores while fostering a team-oriented and supportive workplace culture. Overall, this position is integral to the hospital’s mission of providing world-class care and advancing sleep medicine practices with a strong commitment to innovation, quality, and continuous professional development.
