The role of Senior Manager, Food Safety & Quality Compliance, based in Oak Brook, IL, is a vital position within TreeHouse Foods' quality assurance framework aimed at ensuring the highest standards of food safety and regulatory compliance. This full-time, hybrid role carries an anticipated salary range of $124,800 to $187,200 annually, with eligibility for additional merit awards, bonuses, and equity compensation based on performance and qualifications. The Senior Manager will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of food safety and quality policies aligned with federal, state, GFSI, customer, certification, and internal standards. This role demands a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating compliance risks and requires engagement with regulatory bodies to address any compliance issues effectively.

This position acts as a subject matter expert on food safety regulations, providing crucial technical guidance to manufacturing facilities and warehouses to foster robust food safety practices. Responsibilities include overseeing compliance with food safety audits—including customer, certification, and regulatory assessments—and managing documentation related to regulatory compliance activities such as registrations and inspections. The Senior Manager will also spearhead improvements to internal audit programs and lead educational initiatives covering GFSI, GMP, HACCP, and PCQI requirements to enhance plant and warehouse competencies in food safety.

Additionally, the role entails collaboration with the Trade Compliance team to manage import/export documentation concerning food safety and quality and serving as a backup recall coordinator to facilitate smooth communication with regulatory agencies during product recall events. A key aspect of this role is the ability to travel up to 50% of the time to various facilities to support audits, assessments, and compliance activities, underscoring the hands-on leadership and operational aspect of the position. Job Requirements

  • bachelor's degree in food science, biology, or a related field
  • minimum 8 years of experience in regulatory affairs, food safety, quality assurance, or related roles
  • relevant food safety certifications preferred
  • experience with enterprise systems and programs supporting food safety and quality
  • knowledge of food processing methods and regulatory frameworks
  • strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • proven leadership and communication abilities
  • ability to travel up to 50%

Job Qualifications

  • bachelor's degree in food science, biology, or a related field
  • master's degree preferred
  • minimum 8 years of experience in regulatory affairs, food safety, quality assurance, or related technical roles
  • relevant food safety certifications strongly preferred such as HACCP, PCQI, GFSI, FSVP, Food Defense
  • experience with LACF/ACF environments a plus
  • experience working with enterprise systems such as ERP/WMS platforms including SAP, learning management systems, audit and incident management tools, and warehouse quality programs
  • experience with various food processing methods and regulatory frameworks including FDA, USDA, CFR, LACF/ACF
  • proficient in food safety systems including HACCP, GFSI, preventive controls, traceability, audits
  • strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills
  • proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, conduct audits, and manage compliance documentation
  • excellent communication, organizational, and business acumen skills
  • experience using ERP systems like SAP and Microsoft Office

Job Duties

  • serve as the subject matter expert on applicable food safety regulations and regulatory compliance
  • provide technical guidance to facility and warehouse personnel in developing systems, knowledge, and practices to ensure compliance with food safety regulations, company policies, and external audits including customer, certification, GFSI, and regulatory
  • monitor and report on emerging food safety and quality issues
  • recommend strategies and develop policies and procedures to mitigate risks
  • provide expert advice on complex regulatory concerns
  • manage all documentation related to regulatory compliance, including registrations, licenses, and responses to inspection findings
  • lead improvements to the Food Safety and Quality Internal Audit Assessment Program, including conducting desk and on-site assessments as needed
  • act as the technical expert for GFSI compliance and oversee the development, review, and implementation of related policies and procedures
  • lead the development and delivery of orientation and annual training programs for plant and warehouse personnel on GFSI, GMP, HACCP, and PCQI requirements
  • collaborate with the Trade Compliance team on food safety and quality aspects of import/export processes and related documentation
  • serve as the back-up recall coordinator and act as a liaison with regulatory agencies during recall events
