The Housekeeping Attendant position within Volusia County is an integral role tasked with maintaining cleanliness and order across various public and private areas under the county’s care. This role demands a proactive, detail-oriented individual who can ensure that all facilities remain hygienic, well-stocked, and welcoming to guests, employees, and event attendees alike. The position might require flexible scheduling including evening shifts, reflecting the county’s event-driven environment that often extends beyond typical business hours. Housekeeping Attendants follow detailed post orders that dictate the cleaning and maintenance requirements for their assigned areas which can include restrooms, meeting rooms, exhibit halls, ballrooms, theaters, pre-function spaces, stairwells, loading docks, and other public or operational locations.

Beyond general cleaning, the role encompasses specialized duties such as utilizing a variety of cleaning machines and equipment including I-MOP floor machines, Kaivac cleaning systems, vacuum cleaners (both push and riding types), window cleaning equipment, pressure washers, and scrubbers. Equally important is the ability to adhere to strict safety standards, use cleaning agents properly, and comply with federal, state, and local ordinances to maintain a safe working environment for oneself and others. The incumbent is also responsible for conducting routine building tours to assess cleanliness, respond to emergency situations swiftly, and report or correct any safety hazards.

Effective communication skills are paramount, as the role requires the use of radio equipment with proper etiquette to respond promptly and professionally to cleanliness requests or to coordinate with other team members and supervisors. Occasionally, the Housekeeping Attendant may also assume a leadership position when supervising temporary employees during special events or peak periods, highlighting the importance of teamwork and adaptability. Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Follow assigned post orders to clean assigned areas including stocking cart and supplies
  • Remove and dispose of trash in proper receptacles
  • Clean floors, glass, mirrors, stainless steel, chrome surfaces, painted surfaces, plastic surfaces, porcelain, Formica, woodwork using correct cleaning techniques and supplies
  • Maintain clean restrooms, public areas, inner offices, exhibit halls, meeting rooms, ballrooms, theater, pre-function areas, and event spaces
  • Polish and clean exit stairwells, loading docks and service areas, interior and exterior
  • Polish and clean passengers and freight elevators, stairways, and escalators
  • Make routine building tours to ensure a clean environment
  • Use daily event reports and details to set and refresh rooms to client specifications
  • Use correct radio etiquette to respond to requests timely and professionally
  • Correct or report safety hazards
  • May serve as lead worker for temporary employees
  • Operate various cleaning equipment including I-MOP floor machine, Kaivac cleaning machine, push and riding vacuum, window cleaning systems, pressure washer, and scrubbers
  • Attend work regularly and consistently
  • Respond to emergency situations
  • Perform other assigned duties
