Job Requirements

  • Education, training and/or experience that demonstrates ability to perform essential job functions
  • Experience as a senior cook or equivalent
  • Completion of commercial cooking apprenticeship or related training
  • Experience working in restaurant, catering, or fine dining operations in senior cooking roles
  • Knowledge of proper food preparation and cooking methods
  • Ability to safely operate commercial kitchen equipment
  • Understanding of sanitation and safety protocols
  • Knowledge of inventory control procedures
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to cook and bake large quantities of food
  • Ability to mentor and train kitchen staff
  • Capability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization
  • Passing grade on Environmental Health Department tests
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Punctual and professional work ethic

Job Qualifications

  • Education, training and/or experience demonstrating the ability to perform essential job functions
  • Extensive experience as a senior cook or fry cook
  • Completion of a commercial cooking apprenticeship or other training programs
  • Experience in restaurants, catering or fine dining in a senior capacity
  • Knowledge of proper preparation and cooking methods for a wide variety of food items
  • Ability to use commercial kitchen equipment and utensils properly and safely
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety methods for food preparation and handling
  • Inventory control procedures
  • Strong customer relations skills
  • Effective leadership and supervisory skills
  • Skilled at cooking and baking food in large quantities
  • Ability to understand recipes and menus
  • Ability to evaluate food condition, doneness, and decorations
  • Competent to train and supervise cooks and kitchen helpers
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to keep simple records
  • Ability to use cash register as needed
  • Ability to accurately complete period-end inventory
  • Maintain a passing grade on Environmental Health Department tests
  • Ability to work in a high volume, fast-paced, diverse team environment

Job Duties

  • Assists chef in the overall planning and supervision of the kitchen
  • Understands and executes complex recipes
  • Ensures correct plate presentation
  • Maintains speed of service
  • Provides direction for other line cooks
  • Assists chef in menu planning
  • Prepares and cooks menu items
  • Ensures that preparations are complete for the day's menu
  • Prepares main and side dishes for banquets and buffets
  • Ensures that the kitchens are maintained in a clean and orderly condition
  • Oversees daily food preparation
  • Corrects issues that affect food production, service or quality
  • Provides support to the chefs, manager, supervisor and lead of the area
  • Assists with new hire training and mentors staff
  • Engages in the organization's mission and vision
  • Adheres to all SDZWA and department policies and practices
  • Models for punctuality and professionalism
  • Exemplifies the highest standard of work ethics
  • Performs consistently above organization performance standards
