Job Description
UCI Health is the clinical enterprise of the University of California, Irvine, and serves as the only academic health system located in Orange County. The organization is widely recognized for excellence in healthcare and education, comprising the main UCI Medical Center campus — a 459-bed acute care hospital located in Orange, California — as well as four other hospitals and affiliated physician groups throughout Orange and Los Angeles counties. UCI Health offers expansive ambulatory care services that span the region, delivering high-quality medical services to a population of nearly four million residents, including those in Orange County, western Riverside County, and southeast Los Angeles County.
UCI Medical Center has earned a prestigious reputation, ranked among America’s Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for 23 consecutive years. The center provides advanced tertiary and quaternary care and hosts several specialty programs unique to the region. Among these are Orange County’s only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, a high-risk perinatal and neonatal program, and a trauma center verified by the American College of Surgeons with Level I adult and Level II pediatric capabilities. Additional specialized services include a gold-level geriatric emergency department and a regional burn center, underscoring the facility’s commitment to comprehensive, specialized care.
The Senior Food Service Associate role at UCI Health is vital in supporting the delivery of exceptional patient and visitor dining experiences throughout the hospital and affiliated care centers. This position reports directly to the Food Services Manager and involves working efficiently within various areas, including the kitchen, cafeteria, dishroom, and patient service environments. Duties include meal assembly, service, delivery, catering, dishwashing, sanitation, and safety protocols. This role also plays a key part in onboarding and training new Food Service Workers to uphold the organization’s high standards.
UCI Health strives to maintain a safe and hygienic food service environment, emphasizing excellent sanitary control techniques and robust safety practices in all areas of food handling and preparation. The Senior Food Service Associate must demonstrate the ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet patient and operational needs. Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written, are essential, as well as the capacity to sustain a steady workload pace and foster cooperative working relationships across the healthcare system.
In addition to hands-on food service responsibilities, this role at UCI Health offers an opportunity for individuals to contribute meaningfully to the health system’s broader goals by ensuring timely and safe delivery of nourishing meals to patients and staff. This position is well suited for professionals who possess skilled food preparation experience, a commitment to sanitation standards, and a collaborative attitude within a dynamic hospital setting. UCI Health is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance employee well-being and job satisfaction, including medical insurance, sick and vacation leave, retirement savings plans, and access to various discounts and perks.
Candidates interested in joining UCI Health must comply with strict conditions of employment mandated by the university, including background checks, employment misconduct disclosures, proof of legal work authorization, vaccination policies, and adherence to tobacco-free and drug-free workplace regulations. The organization is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workforce, encouraging applicants who contribute unique perspectives and experiences to apply. Reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities are provided upon request, ensuring equitable access to all candidates.
