Job Description
Intertek is a globally recognized leader in the quality assurance industry, providing comprehensive testing, inspection, and certification services across numerous sectors including construction, manufacturing, and consumer goods. With a presence in over 100 countries and a network of more than 1,000 laboratories and offices, Intertek is committed to delivering innovative solutions that enhance safety, quality, and sustainability for its customers worldwide. The company’s core values emphasize precision, passion, and pace, ensuring that every client receives top-tier service while fostering professional growth for its employees. Known for its robust business model and emphasis on diversity and inclusion, Intertek values a collaborative and dynamic work environment, supporting employees to achieve tenfold their performance potential.
The Senior Field Technician position at Intertek is based in Austin, Texas, within the Professional Services Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) division, which specializes in construction assurance and testing services. Intertek-PSI provides expert evaluations in civil and commercial construction projects, with a focus on materials testing, geotechnical services, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, and specialty testing. This role offers an excellent opportunity for professionals seeking to expand their career in the architectural, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry by working directly on-site with a mixture of testing and inspection responsibilities.
As a Senior Construction Materials Technician, you will be entrusted with performing a variety of project-specific testing and inspection duties, including handling concrete, soil, and other construction materials. The technician will interpret project plans, drawings, specifications, and diagrams, using industry-standard methods to assess site activities. This role demands independent decision-making and active communication, as the technician will attend project meetings without supervision, liaising effectively with clients and project teams to ensure precise and comprehensive reporting.
The position is well-compensated, reflecting its level of responsibility and expertise required. In addition to competitive salary packages, Intertek offers substantial benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability coverage, 401(k) retirement plans with company matching, paid time off including vacation and sick leave, and tuition reimbursement to support ongoing professional development. Intertek is committed to maintaining a safe, drug-free work environment with pre-employment screenings where applicable.
The ideal candidate brings strong certifications such as ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade 1, TXAPA certifications related to hot mix asphalt, ICC inspector credentials, NICET certification, or other specialized qualifications. Physical endurance and the ability to work in varying weather conditions are critical, alongside a valid driver's license and a consistent driving record. This role requires lifting and maneuvering materials frequently and sustaining focus over long periods, reflecting the demanding nature of fieldwork in the construction industry.
Working at Intertek means engaging with a dedicated team of professionals who contribute to maintaining the highest quality standards in construction and materials testing. This is an opportunity for a seasoned technician to enhance their expertise, contribute to critical infrastructure projects, and grow within a company that values innovation, quality, and diversity.
