This career opportunity is for a Management position in the Convention Services department at the Gaylord located at 1000 H St, Chula Vista, California. It is a full-time role offering a competitive annual salary range between $92,000 and $120,000, inclusive of eligibility for a performance-based bonus as well as a $5,000 sign-on bonus. Additionally, the company provides relocation assistance to ensure a smooth transition for new hires. The role is integral to the smooth operation of all conventions, functions, and events held at the property, providing comprehensive support directly to the Assistant Director of Convention Services.

As a Manager in Convention Services, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating complex and high-touch events, focusing on client satisfaction, revenue maximization, and operational efficiency. You will oversee the planning, negotiation, and execution of events, working closely with sales, catering, and other operational departments to ensure all client specifications are met accurately. The position involves forecasting group revenues, managing contracted room blocks, and facilitating communications such as contract addendums, event schedules, and introductory materials. Additionally, you will be responsible for leading planning meetings, site inspections, and pre-convention sessions, all designed to promote seamless event execution measured by client feedback and survey data.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 6 years experience in event management, food and beverage, sales and marketing, or related professional area
  • OR bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in hotel and restaurant management, hospitality, business administration or related major
  • 3 years experience in event management or related professional area
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments
  • Proficiency in event planning software
  • Leadership and conflict resolution experience
  • Availability to work full-time on-site in Chula Vista, California
  • Ability to meet deadlines and delegate tasks effectively

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with 6 years of experience in event management, food and beverage, sales, marketing, or related area
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related major with 3 years of experience in event management or related field
  • Proven management and leadership skills
  • Strong communication and negotiation abilities
  • Experience using Sales and Catering systems
  • Ability to forecast revenues and manage budgets
  • Demonstrated capability in staff training and development

Job Duties

  • Manage and coordinate Convention Services activities associated with planning, supervising, and executing complex and high-touch events
  • Communicate all group specifications and history to operational departments ensuring implementation of established guidelines
  • Partner with senior leadership to implement process improvements enhancing client satisfaction and operational efficiency
  • Accurately forecast group revenues according to guidelines
  • Promote proper use of function space, exhibit hall, and overall event space
  • Maximize group revenue by referring available goods, services, attractions, and sub-contractors to convention groups
  • Assist with training and developing Convention Services staff
  • Oversee contracted group room blocks including cutoffs and attrition
  • Plan and develop convention programs, agendas, and services utilizing Sales and Catering system
  • Create external communications including contract addendums and event schedules
  • Host planning meetings, site inspections, and pre-convention meetings according to departmental guidelines
  • Promote client satisfaction through smooth execution of all assigned conventions
  • Communicate catering event details to operating departments and customers
  • Manage quality process in customer service and employee satisfaction
  • Provide coaching and counseling to employees
  • Direct development, training, and mentoring of employees
  • Motivate and maintain a productive work environment
  • Manage group or interpersonal conflict situations effectively
