This role is for a Senior Event Manager specializing in Campus Events Management within the Meetings and Events team in the Client Experience and Engagement (CEE) division. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Campus Events Management, this position plays a critical strategic and operational role in designing, coordinating, and delivering large-scale, live, experiential events that resonate with Northwestern Mutual's brand, culture, and business goals. As a Sr. Event Manager, the incumbent will be part of a seasoned team of event professionals responsible for end-to-end management, from conception through execution, ensuring every event experience is memorable, engaging, and impactful.
The successful candidate will exhibit extensive expertise in contract negotiation, financial stewardship, industry benchmarking, compliance with accessibility and safety standards, and innovative event design. Emphasis is placed on the ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and diverse event elements including venue transformation, spatial planning, content integration, and culinary experience. This role demands a balance of creativity and operational excellence to advance business objectives via meticulously crafted event strategies.
In addition to overseeing the successful delivery of key marketing and corporate events, the Senior Event Manager acts as a strategic advisor during vendor selection, manages multi-disciplinary partnerships, and ensures the strict adherence to safety, sustainability, and financial policies. The role also involves forecasting, budgeting, and post-event analysis including ROI and attendee satisfaction metrics. A proactive approach to risk management and a growth mindset towards learning and development are essential attributes for success in this role.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 7 years event management experience
- Proven contract negotiation skills
- Experience in budget forecasting and reconciliation
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Knowledge of ADA compliance and risk mitigation
- Experience with multi-venue event logistics
- Ability to manage vendor relationships
- Flexibility for event hours including evenings and weekends
- Proficiency in event management platforms and project software
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in event management, hospitality, business, marketing, or related field preferred
- Minimum of 7 years event management experience
- Proven ability to manage large budgets and complex contract negotiations
- Strong organizational agility to collaborate across organizational boundaries
- Excellent communication, executive presence, and stakeholder-management skills
- Demonstrated business acumen and ability to translate strategies into executable plans
- Facilitation and team building skills with operational and communicative roles
- Expertise in site selection, hotel contracting, and multi-venue logistics
- Experience working with production, AV partners, and immersive design teams
- Comfortable presenting to and interacting with senior leaders
- Ability to train and mentor event coordinators
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends during events
- Proficiency in event management platforms, project management software, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with AI productivity tools preferred
Job Duties
- Deliver event objectives to meet and exceed success metrics aligned with enterprise goals
- Forecast, build, manage, and reconcile large-scale event budgets to optimize spend and ensure financial compliance
- Develop end-to-end event plans including creative direction, spatial design, attendee flow, content integration, and production strategy
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure venue space meets learning session and attendee engagement needs
- Oversee master session scheduling, concurrent programming logistics, and attendee journey mapping
- Manage vendor and venue partnerships, including food and beverage strategy emphasizing dietary inclusivity and sustainability
- Ensure events comply with ADA, safety protocols, risk mitigation plans, and governance standards
- Lead RFP processes, contract negotiations, and vendor evaluations
- Co-lead live event execution maintaining calm, creative, and decisive leadership
- Prepare presentations and conduct post-event ROI, attendee experience, sustainability, and financial analyses
