Job Description

Sundt is a 100% employee-owned contracting company that stands out not only due to its commitment to excellence in construction services but also because of its unique ownership model. At Sundt, every employee is a part owner, resulting in a deeply invested workforce passionate about delivering quality work with attention to detail and deliberate execution. As a company, Sundt focuses on building long-term prosperity for clients, communities, and its employee-owners alike. The organization's culture is defined by a strong sense of ownership, teamwork, and shared purpose, creating an environment where individuals at all levels—from apprentices to managers—are united by a common goal of skillful and purposeful construction practices.

Joining Sundt means becoming part of a culture that values grit, skill, and integrity. The company is committed to offering competitive compensation packages and industry-leading benefits, including a 401(k) plan and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), which further align the interests of employees and the success of the company as a whole. Sundt encourages continuous personal and professional growth by providing incentive programs and training opportunities tailored to help employees develop their abilities and advance their careers. Their inclusive and diverse workforce represents a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, which the company recognizes as a critical component of its sustained success.

The role of Senior Estimator at Sundt is a key position within their preconstruction team, requiring minimal oversight and a high level of expertise. Senior Estimators often serve as the principal point of contact between the company, design teams, and project owners, managing communications and leading estimating activities across various project delivery methods. This position demands strong competencies in both basic and advanced estimating functions, with a focus on disciplines such as earthwork, paving, underground utilities, and structural elements, particularly in transit, civil infrastructure, and highway projects.

In this role, the Senior Estimator will be responsible for preparing detailed quantity take-offs, soliciting quotes from suppliers and subcontractors, developing thorough cost estimates, and ensuring accurate bid closeouts. Proficiency in HCSS estimating software is expected, along with the capability to analyze crew compositions, production rates, equipment selection, and relevant cost data to produce reliable and competitive estimates. The role also involves mentoring junior estimators and interns, overseeing takeoff efforts, and coordinating vendor solicitation processes.

Expertise in project-specific disciplines such as mass earthwork, grading, geotechnical review, paving, underground utilities, and structural elements forms a foundation for success in this role. The Senior Estimator should bring knowledge of industry standards, including dewatering, blasting, aggregate sourcing, trench safety, falsework systems, and crane operations. Sundt values candidates who have earned or are willing to obtain professional credentials such as LEED accreditation or DBIA certification, demonstrating a commitment to industry best practices.

Sundt emphasizes safety in every aspect of its operations, classifying this role as safety-sensitive. This means the Senior Estimator must adhere strictly to safety standards including the use of personal protective equipment and other safety protocols consistent with the company's culture of responsibility and care for its employees and stakeholders.

Overall, this position offers a unique opportunity to work at a highly reputable, employee-owned construction company that not only values technical expertise but fosters a collaborative and motivated culture where every employee contributes to the company’s success and long-term sustainability. Sundt provides a supportive environment with market-competitive pay, comprehensive benefits starting from day one, and programs dedicated to employee well-being and community engagement.
