Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • two or more years of similar production cooking experience
  • knowledge of cooking principles and food safety regulations
  • ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • ability to perform math calculations related to recipes
  • ability to pass food handling certification tests
  • ability to work efficiently under time constraints
  • availability to work varied shifts including weekends
  • must obtain food handlers card within 30 days if a Banner Staffing Services team member
  • possession of Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card if working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital
  • willingness to comply with drug-free workplace policies

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • at least two years of experience in production cooking
  • strong understanding of cooking principles and menu substitutions
  • knowledge of modified recipes for commonly prescribed diets
  • skills in hot food production and commercial kitchen equipment use
  • ability to follow policies and procedures
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to perform math calculations for recipe quantities
  • food handling certification or ability to obtain
  • additional culinary education or experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepares all food items according to standardized recipes
  • adjusts recipe quantities for correct yields
  • notifies supervisor of any problems relating to production
  • plans food production timing and quantities according to daily orders and menu tally sheets
  • determines menu substitutions and consults diet tech or dietician for special diets
  • minimizes food waste through appropriate planning and tracking
  • records food shortages and excess quantities
  • checks and logs food and equipment temperatures and reports any issues
  • maintains par levels of food and supplies
  • orders and restocks items
  • rotates food stocks and checks freshness dates
  • keeps work areas clean and orderly
  • reports needed equipment repairs
  • receives and checks deliveries from vendors
  • oversees production quality when needed
  • provides leadership and knowledge in cooking and food preparation skills to kitchen staff
  • may interact with external customers during café or catering work assignments
