The Senior Cook position at Banner Health, based at Banner Del E. This part-time role involves preparing fresh hot foods for production and retail services, including patient meals, retail dining, and special events. The position requires working varied shifts, including weekends and holidays, and offers attractive shift differentials for weekend and night shifts. As a Senior Cook, you will be expected to collaborate closely with the culinary team in various tasks such as dishwashing, food preparation, inventory management, and restocking supplies, all while maintaining exceptional customer service standards. Job Requirements

high school diploma or GED or equivalent working knowledge
two or more years of similar work experience in production cooking
knowledge of cooking principles and menu substitutions
ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions
effective communication skills
math skills for recipe calculations
ability to learn food handling regulations and pass certification tests
ability to perform tasks in limited time frames
availability for varied shifts including weekends and holidays
ability to work in fast-paced environment
food handlers' card required within 30 days of hire for Banner Staffing Services team members
Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required for Banner Behavioral Health Hospital employees
ability to work safely with kitchen equipment and cleaning chemicals

Job Qualifications

high school diploma or GED or equivalent working knowledge
two or more years of similar work experience in production cooking
solid understanding of cooking principles and menu substitutions
ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions

math skills for recipe and production calculations
knowledge of food handling regulations and ability to pass certification tests

experience with cleaning schedules and safe chemical use
additional related education or experience preferred

Job Duties

prepares all food items according to standardized recipes
adjusts recipe quantities for correct yields
notifies supervisor of any problems relating to production
plans food production timing and quantities in accordance with daily orders and menus
determines menu substitutions in event of shortages
consults with diet tech or dietician for special diet substitutions
minimizes food waste through planning and tracking
records food shortages and excess quantities
checks and logs food and equipment temperatures
maintains par levels of food and supplies and restocks items
rotates food stocks and checks freshness dates
keeps assigned work areas clean and orderly
reports needed equipment repairs
may receive and check in deliveries and assist in menu planning
may oversee production quality when needed
provides leadership and cooking knowledge to kitchen staff
interacts with customers in café or catering as necessary
