Among its many facilities, the Banner Del E. Webb Medical Center stands out as a vital institution, recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of Phoenix’s Best Hospitals. The medical center boasts 391 licensed beds and offers a broad spectrum of acute medical and surgical services, including intensive care, emergency and urgent care, inpatient and outpatient surgery, cardiac catheterization, neurology, orthopedics, oncology, urology, pulmonary services, obstetrics and gynecology, outpatient diagnostic services, and adult behavioral health services. The Senior Cook position at Banner Health’s Culinary & Nutrition department plays a critical role in supporting the organization’s healthcare delivery by ensuring that all food items are prepared fresh and served in a timely, hygienic, and delicious manner. This role involves preparing hot foods for production, retail services, patient meals, and special events, often in a fast-paced and demanding environment. The Senior Cook will work under general supervision but is expected to provide leadership and share culinary expertise with other kitchen staff members, supporting food production for high volume operations with accuracy and efficiency. Shifts for this part-time role are varied, with weekend and holiday work required, including Friday shifts ranging from morning to evening, Saturday 2pm to 10:30pm, and Sunday 10:30am to 7pm. Banner Health offers competitive compensation with a flat rate weekend shift differential of $1 per hour and an 18% night shift differential when applicable. This opportunity is ideal for those who thrive in dynamic environments and are passionate about food preparation that enhances patient and customer experience. The Senior Cook will manage food production timing and quantities in accordance with production schedules, menus, and catering requests, ensuring excellent food quality standards while minimizing waste. Additionally, the Senior Cook helps maintain par levels of food and supplies, safely operates commercial kitchen equipment, and participates in cleaning and sanitation procedures to uphold a safe workplace.

This role is not only a culinary position but also one embedded in the healthcare field, requiring an understanding of specialized diets and menu substitutions as well as the ability to collaborate with dieticians and diet technicians. The position demands adherence to food safety regulations, effective communication skills, and a strong commitment to quality and customer service. Banner Health’s supportive environment encourages professional growth, ongoing training, and cultural diversity, making it a rewarding workplace for culinary professionals dedicated to healthcare service excellence.
