The Senior Cook position at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute under Sodexo is a full-time role with a pay range from $20 to $25 per hour. As a Senior Cook, you will be responsible for preparing a diverse range of hot and cold food items for multiple meal periods such as breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special catered events. Your work will involve following complex recipes and producing both small and large batch goods using a full range of classical and contemporary cooking techniques including plating and garnishing. The position may also include supervisory duties, such as training and assigning tasks to production staff, ensuring a safe and productive kitchen environment, and contributing to waste reduction efforts.
The Senior Cook is expected to exhibit reliability by attending scheduled shifts on time with satisfactory regularity and demonstrate adaptability by supporting various operational needs as required. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Four or more years of related work experience preferred
- Ability to work varying shifts including weekends and holidays
- Reliable and punctual with satisfactory attendance record
- Team-oriented and adaptable
- Physical ability to stand and work for extended periods
- Commitment to maintaining a healthy and safe working environment
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Four or more years of related work experience preferred
- Strong culinary skills with knowledge of classical and contemporary cooking techniques
- Ability to follow complex recipes and produce consistent quality dishes
- Experience in supervising or training kitchen staff is beneficial
- Excellent team player with strong communication skills
- Commitment to food safety and sanitation standards
Job Duties
- Accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and/or cold food items for various meal periods including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special/catered events
- Follow complex recipes and/or product directions
- Produce small to large batch goods using advanced and full range of classical and contemporary cooking, plating and garnishing techniques
- May have oversight over the production staff, train and assign tasks
- Attend work and show for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity
- Perform other duties as assigned which may differ among accounts depending on business necessities and client requirements
