OU HSC serves approximately 4,000 students across more than 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs on campuses in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The institution is known for its commitment to excellence in education, healthcare, and research, contributing significantly to the health and well-being of the community and beyond.
OU HSC is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Cook to join its team in the Food Services department. This is a full-time service and maintenance role based in Oklahoma City. The Senior Cook will work Monday through Friday, from 6:30 am to 2:30 pm, with the possibility of schedule changes depending on workload that may require working some evenings and weekends. The pay range for this position is commensurate with experience, and the role is benefits eligible.
The Senior Cook plays a critical role within the university's food service operations, responsible for not only preparing nutritious and appealing meals but also for planning menus, creating recipes, and managing kitchen inventory and food costs. Under general supervision, the Senior Cook ensures that the kitchen maintains high standards of cleanliness and organization while supporting daily kitchen operations. This position requires a proactive approach to ordering supplies timely and effectively to meet the demands of the university's dining services.
Additional responsibilities for the Senior Cook include training kitchen staff to uphold quality and safety standards, monitoring inventory levels to prevent shortages or excesses, and participating in professional development opportunities to stay current with culinary techniques and food safety regulations. The role may involve preparing gourmet and specialty menu items, involving ethnic cooking techniques, baking, salad preparation, entrée selection, and pairing. Experience with menu planning and costing is highly valued to ensure the food service operations are both economical and high-quality.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment where culinary skills directly impact student and staff satisfaction. Working at OU HSC allows the Senior Cook to engage with a diverse community while enhancing their expertise in a prestigious academic health center setting. Prospective candidates should be passionate about food service, detail-oriented, and eager to contribute to an established team dedicated to excellence.
Candidates hired for this position must successfully pass a background check and a driver's license check as part of the hiring process, underscoring the importance of trust and responsibility in this role. The University values safety, professionalism, and quality customer service in all its operations.
In summary, the Senior Cook at OU HSC is a vital member of the Food Services team, entrusted with planning, preparation, management, and training tasks that support the center's mission to provide outstanding health and educational services. This role is ideal for someone with experience in food service, culinary training or certification, and a commitment to maintaining high standards in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
