This Senior Cook position is a full-time role located at the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation UPA in West Des Moines, with a competitive pay rate ranging from $18.00 to $20.00 per hour. The role operates exclusively on weekdays with specific shifts, details of which will be shared during the interview process. As a Senior Cook at Sodexo, you will play a vital role in preparing and presenting high-quality, nutritious meals to customers. Your daily tasks will focus on reducing food waste and maintaining exceptional food service standards. This position demands culinary expertise with the ability to follow complex recipes, produce a variety of hot and cold dishes across multiple meal periods including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special or catered events.

The Senior Cook will be expected to use both classical and contemporary cooking techniques, ensuring accurate portioning, cooking, and attractive presentation of food. This role may also include supervisory responsibilities such as overseeing production staff, training new cooks, and assigning daily tasks to maintain an efficient kitchen operation. Punctuality and reliability are key, with an expectation to attend scheduled shifts regularly and on time.

Job Duties

  • Accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and/or cold food items for various meal periods including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special/catered events
  • Follow complex recipes and/or product directions
  • Produce small to large batch goods using advanced and full range of classical and contemporary cooking, plating and garnishing techniques
  • May have oversight over the production staff, train, and assign tasks
  • Attend work and show for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity
  • Perform other duties as assigned depending on business necessities and client requirements
