Liberty Mutual is currently seeking a Senior Workers Compensation Claims Specialist to join its West Region team. This pivotal role involves managing moderately complex to complex claims related to workers compensation within assigned authority limits. The Senior Claims Specialist will utilize the latest technological tools to review, analyze, and process claims. Responsibilities include making informed decisions about liability and compensability, evaluating losses, negotiating settlements, and managing an inventory of commercial property and casualty claims involving bodily injury or property loss. Depending on the candidate’s skills and experience, they may be considered for either Senior Claims Specialist I or Senior Claims Specialist II positions, with salary ranges varying by location.

Candidates must reside within 50 miles of key locations including Lake Oswego, OR, and Chandler, AZ, with a requirement to work onsite twice a month. Moreover, candidates living in California and Washington may be eligible for 100% remote work depending on the location and company policy, which is subject to change. The role demands excellent interpersonal skills for communication and negotiation, strong leadership abilities, and deep technical knowledge of claims processing, legal liability, insurance policy coverage, and relevant state laws.

The Senior Claims Specialist will also support the Claims Team Manager by assigning new claims, providing technical direction, and monitoring caseloads. Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Plan and conduct investigations of claims including interviewing insureds, witnesses and claimants
  • collect and evaluate documentation and secure evidence
  • determine liability, compensability, and damages
  • determine need for and engage independent adjusters, cause and origin experts, and independent medical examiners
  • refer claims to subrogation group or Special Investigations Unit as appropriate
  • assess policy coverage and notify insured of any issues
  • establish and adjust reserve requirements during claim processing
  • assess actual damages and negotiate settlements within assigned authority limits
  • coordinate litigation activities associated with claims and attend trials as company representative
  • act as senior technical professional assisting team members with escalated issues
  • mentor and train new team members
  • participate in quality review processes
  • conduct Suit Committees, Roundtables, Arbitrations, Mediations, field investigations, and assist in closed file reviews
  • perform other duties as assigned
