Job Description
Liberty Mutual is a leading global insurance company providing a broad range of insurance products and services. Founded with a commitment to financial strength, innovation, and customer service, Liberty Mutual has established itself as a trusted name in the insurance industry. With a presence in major markets across the United States and worldwide, Liberty Mutual focuses on helping customers protect what matters most through comprehensive insurance solutions. The company emphasizes workplace diversity, inclusivity, and professional growth, fostering a collaborative culture where employees are valued and empowered to achieve their full potential.
This particular role is for a Senior Workers Compensation Claims Specialist within Liberty Mutual's West Region. The Senior Claims Specialist is an integral part of the Claims Team and is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and processing moderately complex to complex insurance claims related to commercial property and casualty, bodily injury, or property loss. Using the latest technology and resources, the specialist evaluates liability, compensability, and loss impact to make informed decisions about claims settlements and ongoing claim management. This position involves a mix of technical claims handling and leadership responsibilities, including assisting the Claims Team Manager with claim assignments, providing technical direction, and mentoring team members.
The role may be categorized as Senior Claims Specialist I or Senior Claims Specialist II, depending on experience and skills, which is reflected in the salary range that varies based on location and factors such as education and certifications. Candidates are required to reside within 50 miles of Lake Oswego, OR, or Chandler, AZ, with an onsite work requirement of twice a month. Residents in California and Washington State have the possibility of 100% remote work, though this policy may change.
The Senior Claims Specialist is tasked with investigating claims by interviewing involved parties, collecting evidence, and confirming coverage parameters. They may engage external independent adjusters, experts on cause and origin, and medical examiners to assist in claim resolution. A critical component of the role includes assessing damages, negotiating settlements within authority limits, coordinating litigation efforts as necessary, and attending trials when required. Additionally, this role acts as a senior technical resource within the claims team, helping to solve complex issues and guiding less experienced team members through mentoring and training.
This position contributes toward quality assurance by participating in quality reviews, suit committees, arbitrations, mediations, and field investigations. The Senior Claims Specialist also plays a significant role in the ongoing professional development and efficiency of the Claims Team, helping ensure high standards of claims handling, customer service, and legal compliance.
Liberty Mutual offers a competitive pay philosophy that reflects the skills, experience, education, and certifications of each employee along with prevailing labor market conditions. The company fosters an inclusive workplace culture that values diverse perspectives and aims to support employees with comprehensive benefits, flexible work arrangements, and opportunities for career advancement. Liberty Mutual is committed to equal opportunity employment and non-discrimination across all protected categories as stipulated by federal, state, and local laws. The company also adheres to fair chance employment practices in designated locations.
Overall, this Senior Workers Compensation Claims Specialist role offers a dynamic and rewarding opportunity for claims professionals looking to advance their careers in a stable yet innovative insurance company. Successful candidates will enjoy a supportive work environment, comprehensive benefits, and the chance to make a meaningful impact on the lives of customers, colleagues, and communities served by Liberty Mutual.
